Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Joe Meeker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jase Newson! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meeker rushes Newson and presses him up against the cage. Nice body punch from Newson. Newson tries for a takedown. No joy.
Meeker misses with the head strike.
Meeker is looking to break free of the clinch but Newson has double underhooks. Meeker is trying to break free. A head punch blocked on the inside by Newson. Meeker is trying to break the clinch but Newson has him pressed against the cage. Meeker blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Newson prevents Meeker from breaking the clinch. Newson stalls. Meeker prevents the takedown attempt.
Newson manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Meeker is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Newson keeps control of Meeker as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Newson breaks the clinch.
Newson throws a right hand that Meeker ducks under and follows up with a left that Meeker also avoids with ease. Newson cracks a nice hook into Meeker's ribs. Meeker is breathing heavily. Newson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Meeker looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Newson creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Meeker sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ground and pound from Newson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Newson is putting a hurting on Meeker here, landing some big shots from side control. Newson looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Meeker is avoiding damage well.
Newson trying to control the action but Meeker is working from the bottom. Newson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Meeker takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Newson throws an elbow but Meeker slips to the side and avoids it well. Newson in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Newson looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Meeker is avoiding damage well.

Newson is working Meeker over with some ground and pound from side control. Meeker takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The strikes coming from Newson are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Meeker is letting Newson control him for a moment. Meeker takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Newson lands a few punches from side control. Newson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newson throws an elbow but Meeker slips to the side and avoids it well. Newson working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Newson advances nicely into full mount. Newson landing strikes from the mount. The referee warns Meeker that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
A nice elbow there by Newson. Newson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Meeker looks a forlorn figure.
Meeker wants to control but Newson is having none of it. Newson lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Meeker hang on?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Newson working the ground and pound effectively.
Newson lands a big shot there that rocks Meeker but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Newson lands a big elbow. Newson lands a nice shot to the head. Meeker is bucking up trying to escape but Newson cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Meeker tries to lock up and control but Newson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Newson with good strikes from the mount here! Newson raining down shots from the mount! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Meeker wants to control but Newson is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jase Newson dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Newson scores with a one two! Meeker had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Meeker is rocked! Meeker takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Oh Meeker is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Newson scores with a jab. Newson is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Meeker flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Meeker is out cold! Newson holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
