Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy DeVito! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Diaz! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz tries to bum rush DeVito with a series of wild strikes but DeVito uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Diaz misses with a few strikes there.
Diaz misses with a body kick. A quick step to the side and DeVito tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Diaz misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Diaz fails with the takedown and DeVito makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Diaz checks a leg kick. DeVito swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. DeVito thuds his shin into the meat of Diaz's side. Diaz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. DeVito tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Diaz is in DeVito's guard. Diaz content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. DeVito looking for a sweep. Not yet DeVito, not yet. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as DeVito holds on and takes a little breather. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Diaz throws a strike but DeVito rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's one minute gone in the round. DeVito would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Diaz looking for a guillotine here but DeVito defends easily.
DeVito wants to get up but he can't break Diaz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Diaz looking to sweep here. No luck so far. DeVito wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving. Diaz has his foot on DeVito's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. DeVito works his way back into a safe position though. Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but DeVito can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. DeVito sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. DeVito tries to stand but Diaz is controlling from the bottom. Connects with an elbow from the bottom, proving to the judges that he's still active off his back. DeVito trying to stand up but can't free himself from Diaz's guard.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. DeVito lands with a hook. Diaz tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Diaz misses with a takedown attempt and DeVito counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Diaz thinking. Diaz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from DeVito.
DeVito throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it. DeVito stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and DeVito wants it to stay on the feet. Tommy DeVito has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Diaz. Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown but DeVito manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Diaz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but DeVito moves out of range and avoids them all easily. DeVito tried to counter with a leg kick but Diaz avoided it. DeVito misses with a body shot.

and DeVito makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. DeVito is looking to wear down Diaz with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Diaz cracks the inside of DeVito's front leg. Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but DeVito circles away quickly and effectively. Decent striking displayed by DeVito there. Diaz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Diaz misses the jab. DeVito just misses with a punch to the body.
DeVito moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromDiaz. DeVito lands with an overhand left. DeVito lands a nice hook to Diaz's body. Diaz takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. DeVito scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. DeVito avoids the head kick by Diaz.
Diaz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tommy DeVito dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Diaz moves out of range as DeVito strikes. Diaz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but DeVito was well out of range. Poor timing from Diaz. Diaz tries for a takedown but DeVito circles away easily and DeVito makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Nick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. DeVito throws a low kick but Diaz avoids it. Diaz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but DeVito avoids it really well and circles away. DeVito swings for the body but Diaz moves out of range.
Tommy DeVito is winning the standup battle so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. DeVito throws a quick inside leg kick. DeVito lands a right hook to the body.

and Diaz counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. DeVito scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. DeVito misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

DeVito lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Diaz. Diaz is breathing heavily. A short right from DeVito on the inside. DeVito lands a right hand. DeVito can't find room to land a body shot as Diaz controls the action.

Diaz throws the left hand but DeVito avoids the punch easily. DeVito thumps Diaz with a low kick. A good leg kick by DeVito. DeVito dips down and scores with a jab to the body. DeVito scores with a jab. Diaz acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Diaz avoids the body shot from DeVito.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Diaz is rocked! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Diaz lands a leg kick that knocks DeVito off balance momentarily. Diaz is still on wobbly legs! Can DeVito finish him? DeVito lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Diaz pivots, looking for a leg kick but DeVito is out of range and Diaz settles back down. Diaz gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! DeVito gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Diaz is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tommy DeVito! Tommy DeVito retains his featherweight title! A relieved looking Tommy DeVito thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
