Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Hooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phileas Ankward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roberto Hooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Phileas Ankward!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ankward throws a right and a left that both miss.

Ankward shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ankward trying to pass the guard but Hooper defending well.
Ankward tries to stand and escape but Hooper is controlling the position.
Hooper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ankward is working away from the top position though.
Hooper is trying to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ankward wants to stand up but Hooper has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Hooper moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ankward trying to control the position from guard on top but Hooper is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hooper keeping full guard, as Ankward tries to pass.
Hooper is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Hooper is looking for a kimura but Ankward is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hooper to get the leverage.

Hooper stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Ankward to get to his feet.

Hooper gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ankward's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ankward loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Ankward got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hooper has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ankward has managed to get both his arms back between Hooper's legs - danger averted.

Hooper working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Ankward has passed into half guard!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hooper is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ankward pulls his head out easily.
Ankward trying to control the action but Hooper is working from the bottom.

Hooper looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Ankward stalling away here and it's allowed Hooper to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ankward decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Ankward fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hooper to the ground. Ankward is now in Hooper's guard.

Hooper is looking for a triangle but Ankward pushes his legs off easily.
Ankward pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hooper is keeping the position for now.
Hooper really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hooper looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ankward postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phileas Ankward dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Hooper tries to sprawl but Ankward drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ankward is trying to control. Hooper wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Hooper looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Ankward wants to take a breather but Hooper is having none of it.
Ankward tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hooper knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ankward prevents Hooper from improving his position.
Hooper is pressing down on Ankward's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ankward looking to sit in guard and control but Hooper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Hooper stands up from Ankward's guard - Hooper perhaps looking for a knockout.

Ankward looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Hooper looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Ankward is trying to control. Hooper wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ankward is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hooper has managed to free his arm - good work.
Hooper tries to get to full guard but Ankward has control of the leg.
Hooper moves into full guard.

Hooper is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ankward defends well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hooper looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ankward passes into side control.
Phileas Ankward has got the better of the ground game so far.
You can see the frustration on Hooper's face as Ankward controls the position.
Ankward wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hooper keeps working.
Hooper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ankward wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ankward throws a strike aimed at the side of Hooper's head but Hooper avoids it well.

Ankward is trying to get an arm triangle but Hooper is defending well.
Ankward trying to control the action but Hooper is working from the bottom.
Hooper misses with a strike from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ankward has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ankward throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hooper will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phileas Ankward showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Ankward scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Hooper is not content to let Ankward control the position.
Ankward blocks the strikes from Hooper.

Ankward is trying to get an arm triangle but Hooper is defending well.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hooper is trying to maintain the position but Ankward is very close to passing his half guard.

Hooper is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ankward pulls his head out easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ankward looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ankward tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ankward tries to clinch up.
Phileas Ankward seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ankward has Hooper up against the cage in a clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ankward as Hooper tries to tie him up.
Ankward wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Ankward successfully pulls guard.
Hooper not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hooper's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Ankward controlling Hooper's posture.
Hooper wanted to stand there but Ankward had control of the position.

Ankward is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ankward wriggles free and stands up.

Ankward shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ankward takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hooper has his foot on Ankward's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ankward works his way back into a safe position though.

Ankward gets to his feet - Hooper follows without any prompting.
Roberto Hooper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Phileas Ankward is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Ankward looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Phileas Ankward comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ankward has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
