PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mario Vespucci (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dex Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Vespucci might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Unopposed. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mario Vespucci!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dex Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vespucci shoots in and drives through. Hunter sprawls well.
Despite the aggression on Hunter's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Vespucci closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hunter circles away.
Hunter misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Hunter takes the fight into the clinch.
Vespucci tries to pull guard but Hunter won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mario Vespucci. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vespucci is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Vespucci drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hunter pulls his leg out and moves away.

Hunter closes the distance and pushes Vespucci back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vespucci has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hunter after a bit of a struggle.

Hunter is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Vespucci to keep the fight standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Vespucci wants to take the fight to the mat but Hunter manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Vespucci drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Hunter gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Vespucci jumps guard but Hunter stands there with Vespucci around his waist. Vespucci gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Vespucci drags the fight down to the ground.
Vespucci doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Hunter trying to stand up but can't free himself from Vespucci's guard.
Hunter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vespucci throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Hunter wants to pass the guard but Vespucci is keeping the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hunter trying to control the position from guard on top but Vespucci is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hunter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Vespucci swivels and escapes.
Vespucci tries to counter by clinching up but Hunter breaks away and moves out of range.

and Vespucci counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Hunter looking for a guillotine here but Vespucci defends easily.
Vespucci loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vespucci cracks Hunter with a solid left hand.
Vespucci has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Hunter wants to control the position but Vespucci says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Vespucci thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hunter avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Vespucci.
Vespucci has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hunter trying to control but Vespucci postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Vespucci seems to be looking for submissions.
Hunter has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Hunter wants to get back to his feet.
Hunter is looking to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vespucci connects with a nice short shot to Hunter's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Vespucci gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Vespucci tries to score a body lock takedown but Hunter shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hunter lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Vespucci backwards.
Vespucci has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hunter after a bit of a struggle.
Vespucci is working for takedown but Hunter is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mario Vespucci. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hunter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vespucci is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Hunter moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dex Hunter!
