Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Abou Ba! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Nelson Country! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Country avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Country shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ba defends it nicely. Country circles away from the clinch attempt.
Abou Ba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ba fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Country shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ba as he avoids it easily. Ba was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. No luck for Country with that takedown attempt. Abou Ba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nelson Country. Ba rushes Country and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Country throws a punch but it's blocked by Ba. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ba's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Country has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Ba is landing a low percentage of strikes. Country misses with a leg kick and Ba counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ba. Ba escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Country tries to keep at a distance but Ba has taken the fight into the clinch. Ba tries to stall but Country uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Country is looking for a takedown. Ba gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Country.
Ba breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Ba misses with a takedown attempt - Country sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Ba gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Country is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ba gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Ba jumps guard and drags Country to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Country distracts Ba with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Country tries to free his leg and advance position but Ba is retaining full guard. Country keeps trying to improve his position. Country trying to control the position from guard on top but Ba is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ba is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Country engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Ba is looking to stand up but Country isn't so interested in that idea.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Country has Ba up against the cage in a clinch.
Country changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ba fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ba fails in his attempt to clinch. Ba looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Country tries a head kick but it misses.

Country jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ba walks away with a smile on his face. Country gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Country shoots in but Ba avoids the takedown attempt easily. Ba has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ba breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Ba missing with a left hand there. Country was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Country throws a head kick that misses. The fight moves into the clinch position. Country can't get the takedown.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Country is working for takedown but Ba is calmly controlling the position for now. Ba pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Ba clinches with his opponent.
Country breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The crowd cheers as Country lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ba doesn't seem phased though. A combination from Ba does no damage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ba looks to clinch and Country counters with a nice double leg into guard. Country passes Ba's left leg - he's now in half guard. Country is thwarting Ba's attempts to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Ba gets back to full guard.
Ba looking to hit a scissor sweep but Country is one step ahead there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Abou Ba dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Ba tries to clinch but fails miserably and Country counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Ba! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Country trying to control the position but Ba is working away. Country lands a nice forearm strike. Country laying and praying for a moment but Ba takes advantage and regains half guard. Ba is trying to stand up here but Country is controlling him well. Country is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Country lands a nice short elbow. Country postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Ba will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Country advances to half guard. Country with the ground and pound but Ba uses the opportunity to regain guard. Ba is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Country is controlling him. Country trying to control but Ba is working from the bottom.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Ba has closed the distance and engaged Country in a clinch.
Ba pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Country tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ba defends well and Country ends up having to push Ba into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Country tries to close the distance and clinch but Ba swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Country throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ba tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Country is in Ba's guard. Country throws a big elbow that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Country postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ba is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Country, into his guard. Ba has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Country is proving hard to escape from. Ba avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Country looking for a sweep. Not yet Country, not yet. Country trying to keep a closed guard but Ba is proving a slippery customer.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Ba preventing the sweep. Country has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ba postures up.

We're now in half guard. Nelson Country has got the better of the ground game so far. Ba trying to control from the bottom.

Nelson Country showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Country wants to pass the guard but Ba is keeping the position. Ba utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Country trying to control but Ba is working from the bottom. Country is looking to work some ground and pound but Ba has wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Country being controlled here momentarily. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Ba wants to stand up but Country is controlling him.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Country scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Country prevents Ba from escaping the position. Ba manages to get back to half guard. Ba blocking the ground and pound attempt from Country.

Ba tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Country manages to circle out of the way. Ba is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Country is looking for the big counter here. Country shoots in looking for a takedown but Ba manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Country's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Abou Ba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nelson Country. Ba goes for a double leg but Country avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Country continues to drive forward. Ba fails with an attempt to clinch.
Country shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ba sprawls well. Ba wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Country gets slowly back to his feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ba is looking to clinch but Country is avoiding it.
Abou Ba is winning the standup battle so far. A left lands for Country.
