Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Hugo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vince Run (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Hugo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vince Run!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hugo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Run sprawls well. Run wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hugo gets slowly back to his feet.
Run is looking to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Hugo. No joy for Run on that attempt.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Run's coach down at Foot Loves was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Run's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Hugo wants to break free but Run has control.
Run's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Hugo fails to pull the fight into his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Run ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Run no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Hugo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Run is on top in guard.

Run trying to control but Hugo is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hugo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Run slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Run forces his way into half guard.
Run prevents Hugo from improving his position.

Run stands up from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hugo darts in looking for a takedown but Run gets double underhooks and turns Hugo into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Hugo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Run gets control of Hugo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Run will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Hugo throws a big elbow that misses.
Run controls Hugo momentarily but Hugo frees himself.

Run is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hugo is aware though and is defending well.

Hugo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Run dives on top into guard.


Run gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hugo fails with the takedown.

Run tries to keep at a distance but Hugo has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Run stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Hugo is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Run is keeping busy.
Run comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Run throws a punch but it's blocked by Hugo.
Run wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hugo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Run walks away with a smile on his face. Hugo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Run lands a head kick!


It looks like John Hugo has been cut.
Hugo throws a series of punches but Run avoids them all with ease.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Run has closed the distance and engaged Hugo in a clinch.
Run wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Run tries for a takedown. No joy.
Run tries to circle away but Hugo has him pinned against the cage.
Run goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hugo prevents it.
Hugo misses with a punch to the body.
Run is looking to take this one to the mat.
Hugo lands a left hand that snaps the head of Run backwards.
Hugo tries to pull guard but Run forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Run fails to pull guard.
Run trying to control the position but instead, Hugo has worked for underhooks and has pushed Run into the cage.
Run looking for a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vince Run dominated that round.
The cut man is working on John Hugo's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Run shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hugo as he avoids it easily.
Run tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hugo swivels and escapes.
Run misses with a double jab.
Hugo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Run circles away quickly and effectively.
A slapping body kick lands there for Hugo.
Run takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Run throws a push kick but Hugo slaps the foot to one side.
Run tries to clinch but Hugo is having none of it.
John Hugo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hugo stuffs the takedown.
John Hugo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vince Run.
Run slaps away a takedown attempt from Hugo, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hugo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Run's head.
Run stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Run wants it to stay on the feet.
Hugo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Hugo moves into the clinch successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hugo makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Hugo manages to break the clinch.

Run shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hugo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hugo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Run wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Run creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hugo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Run is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Hugo's shoulder. That is not cool.
Run is continuing to stall.
Run cracks Hugo with a big elbow.
Hugo is trying to escape the position but Run is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Run connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hugo some visible discomfort.
Run throws an elbow but Hugo slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Run lands some shots froms side control.
Hugo is trying to get back to half guard.
Run is looking to take a break and control but Hugo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Run is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hugo has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Run wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hugo keeps working.
Hugo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hugo tries to get out of the position.
Hugo is looking for a sweep.
Run fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Run thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Run tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Run stands up and beckons Hugo to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hugo scores with a one two! Run had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Hugo fails in his attempt to clinch.
John Hugo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hugo gets a takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Run controlling the position well.

Run kicks Hugo off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Vince Run will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on John Hugo's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Hugo avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hugo avoids a punch combination nicely.

Run drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Run has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Run shoots in and drives through. Hugo sprawls well.
Hugo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Run rushes Hugo and presses him up against the cage.

Run jumps guard.
Vince Run has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hugo postures up in Run's guard and throws a big left but Run blocks it.

Run throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Hugo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hugo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hugo's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Hugo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Run is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hugo, into his guard.

Run trying to control but Hugo is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Run lands a couple of elbows.
Run throws a big elbow that misses.
Hugo is striking but Run is not phased and passes to half guard.
Run trying to control the pace.
Run is thwarting Hugo's attempts to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Run is trying to control the action in half guard but Hugo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Run decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Hugo will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Run tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hugo swivels and escapes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Run shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hugo pinned against the cage. Hugo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
John Hugo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vince Run.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hugo is defended easily by Run.
Run tries to clinch but Hugo moves out of range.
Good standup being displayed there by Hugo as he connects with a hook.
Run changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
John Hugo is winning the standup battle so far.
No luck for Run with that takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Run shoots in looking for a takedown. Hugo tries to sprawl out of it but Run keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hugo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Run takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Good exchange - Hugo coming out on top.

And that's the end of the fight!
Vince Run comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Run winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
