Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Nunez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hank Stanley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brian Nunez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hank Stanley!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stanley fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nunez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stanley.
Stanley throws a lazy head kick
and Nunez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Nunez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Nunez avoids a kick to the body.
Stanley fails with the takedown

and Nunez counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Brian Nunez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hank Stanley.
Nunez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Nunez counters with a shoot takedown. Stanley fights it but they end up in guard.

Nunez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Stanley had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nunez defends it easily.
Stanley tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Nunez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

so Nunez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Nunez stays in close to Stanley's body and controls the position.
Stanley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Stanley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Nunez wants to get back to his feet.

Stanley dives in for a single leg takedown but Nunez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Nunez tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Nunez tries to circle away but Stanley has him pinned against the cage.
Stanley tries to pull guard but Nunez won't allow it.
Nunez wants to get back to striking at distance but Stanley won't allow it.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Stanley tries to close the distance and clinch but Nunez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stanley is defended easily by Nunez.
Nunez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Stanley can do to turn this around?

Stanley shoots in looking for a takedown. Nunez tries to sprawl out of it but Stanley keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nunez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Stanley feints and as Nunez raises his hands in defense, Stanley changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Nunez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Nunez is working an open guard so Stanley takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Stanley avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Stanley wants to clinch.
Stanley misses with a jab, cross combination.
Nunez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Stanley manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Stanley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nunez circles away.
Stanley tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nunez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stanley somewhat.

and Nunez counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Come on Stanley - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Nunez has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

That was a close second round but I would say that Brian Nunez will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Stanley shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nunez sprawls well. Nunez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Stanley gets slowly back to his feet.

Hank Stanley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Stanley closes the distance and clinches up with Nunez, looking for a takedown. Stanley pushes Nunez against the cage but Nunez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Nunez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Stanley uses from the top position.

Nunez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Well Nunez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
