PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cobalt Khalil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khalil comes into the arena with The Hives - Walk Idiot Walk blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cobalt Khalil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Doe!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khalil throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Doe was covering up waiting for the punch and Khalil finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Doe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Khalil is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Turka Elite Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Khalil feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Khalil looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Doe is fending him off so far but Khalil persists. Nope, Doe circles away and we're back to standing.

Doe fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Khalil looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Doe displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Khalil.
Khalil is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Doe can do to turn this around?

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khalil accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Khalil lands a couple of decent looking shots.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Khalil shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Doe but Doe pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cobalt Khalil will probably get the nod.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Khalil on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Doe takes a swing at Khalil's ribcage but misses.

Khalil shoots for a takedown but Doe saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Cobalt Khalil is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Doe throws a hook to the side of Khalil's head but Khalil sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Khalil drops down looking for a counter takedown but Doe sprawls and moves away.
Khalil walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.


It looks like Cobalt Khalil has been cut.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Cobalt Khalil.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Khalil, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
