PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jessie Hartin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Acton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jessie Hartin has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jessie Hartin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frankie Acton!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Hartin. No joy for Acton on that attempt.
Hartin moves in looking to clinch but Acton pushes him off.
Acton swats away the attempt to clinch by Hartin.
Hartin drops his shoulder and cracks Acton with a huge uppercut! Acton goes down! Can Hartin finish him?


Acton is rocked!


It looks like Frankie Acton has been cut.
Acton controls Hartin momentarily but Hartin frees himself.
Acton is still in real trouble! Can Hartin finish him?
Hartin forces his way into half guard.
Acton is trying to get back to full guard.
Acton seems to have recovered his senses.
Hartin not doing much here.
Acton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hartin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hartin's back!

Acton struggling to land strikes to the head as Hartin covers up.

Acton looking to break Hartin's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Hartin remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Acton will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Hartin trying to get back to his feet but Acton is in full control for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hartin tries to escape the position.

Hartin is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Acton gets his way!
Hartin just trying to survive but Acton is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Hartin covering up well and avoiding damage.
Hartin trying to control but not successfully.
Acton is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Hartin wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.
Acton looking to hold on to the position here but Hartin rolls and ends up regaining guard.

Acton wants to control from the top but Hartin keeps moving.
Hartin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Acton on the ground.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hartin connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Hartin tries to clinch up but Acton circles away and keeps his distance.
Hartin moves in looking to clinch but Acton pushes him off.
Hartin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Acton swats away the attempt to clinch by Hartin.
Acton shoots in for a double leg but Hartin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jessie Hartin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hartin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hartin doesn't manage to clinch there - Acton circles away.
Hartin throws a head kick but Acton moves out of range.

and Acton counters with a single leg into guard. Hartin didn't expect that.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Acton circles away from the clinch attempt

so Acton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Acton has gone for a leg lock! Hartin slips out almost immediately though and dives into Acton's guard.
Hartin trying to control but Acton is working from the bottom.

Acton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hartin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Acton wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Acton is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Acton is breathing heavily.
Acton keeping moving, preventing Hartin from controlling successfully.
Hartin throwing strikes but missing.
Hartin has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hartin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Acton's head.

Hartin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hartin tries to stand but Acton is controlling from the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hartin tries for a takedown but Acton circles away easily

and Acton counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Hartin!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Acton lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
A nice elbow there by Acton.

Acton with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Acton tries to control but Hartin wriggling away.
Hartin is trying desperately to improve position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Acton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Hartin has managed to clinch.
Hartin pushes off an throws an elbow but Acton leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Acton drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Hartin creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Hartin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jessie Hartin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hartin throws a series of punches but Acton moves out of range.
Hartin doesn't manage to clinch there - Acton circles away.
Hartin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hartin tries to clinch

and Acton counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Hartin had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Acton is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hartin Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Acton's back instead.
Acton tries to escape but Hartin has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Acton turns into Hartin and is now in his guard.
Hartin controls Acton momentarily but Acton frees himself.
Acton looking to sit in guard and control but Hartin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hartin sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hartin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Acton is not content to let Hartin control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Acton gets back to half guard.
Acton is trying to control but can't.
Hartin stalling away here and it's allowed Acton to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Acton is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hartin punching from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hartin is looking to control Acton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hartin avoid being mounted?
Frankie Acton has got the better of the ground game so far.
Acton has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Acton moves to the back position.
Hartin holding on to Acton's left wrist, preventing the choke.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frankie Acton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Acton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
