Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kermit Yates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wesley Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kermit Yates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wesley Santos!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos shoots in but Yates avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Yates counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Santos preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Yates is in close to Santos's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Santos trying to control the position.
Yates postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Yates trying to stand up but can't free himself from Santos's guard.
Yates prevents Santos from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Santos pulls Yates in close to his closed guard and prevents Yates from doing any damage or advancing position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Santos is on top in guard.

Santos not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Yates might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Santos postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Yates controls Santos momentarily but Santos frees himself.

Yates is looking for a triangle but Santos pushes his legs off easily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A head kick from Santos lands but Yates takes it in his stride.


It looks like Kermit Yates has been cut.
A nice leg kick lands there from Santos.

Santos instigates a clinch.
Yates could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Santos can't get the takedown.
Kermit Yates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wesley Santos.
Santos lands a body punch in the clinch.
Santos is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Yates pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Santos gets control of Yates's arms and successfully pulls guard. Santos will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Santos lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Santos throws a head kick that misses.
Yates closes the distance and clinches up with Santos, looking for a takedown. Yates pushes Santos against the cage but Santos circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Santos scores with a leg kick.
Santos shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Yates pinned against the cage. Yates gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Santos looks winded!
Santos lands a head kick. Yates smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Yates moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Santos is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Santos tries to land a knee to the head but Yates blocks with his arms.
Santos is stalling here.
Santos is trying to stall.
Santos is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Yates gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Yates has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Santos after a bit of a struggle.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yates fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Santos connects with a knee to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Santos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wesley Santos dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kermit Yates's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Yates gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Santos pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Santos dives in for a single leg takedown but Yates sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Yates wants to take the fight to the mat but Santos manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Yates tries to pull guard but Santos forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Santos breaks the clinch.
Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yates but Yates pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters circling a little - Santos finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Wesley Santos seems to be getting the better of the standup.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Santos.
Santos is breathing heavily.
Yates fails with an attempt to clinch.

Santos clinches up with Yates and pushes him back against the cage.

Santos gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Yates jumps guard but Santos turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Santos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yates walks away with a smile on his face. Santos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
The crowd cheers as Santos lands an impressive looking overhand right. Yates doesn't seem phased though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Santos lands with a good body shot.
Wesley Santos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Yates looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Santos is fending him off so far but Yates persists. Nope, Santos circles away and we're back to standing.
Santos comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Santos takes the fight into the clinch.

Santos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Yates is trying hard to land a takedown here. Santos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Santos lands a jab-cross combination.


Yates is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Santos closes the distance and clinches up with Yates, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes Yates against the cage but Yates circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Oh Yates is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A head kick by Santos - that's a beauty! Yates is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Santos can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
