Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Keith Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rickson Gracie! The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Francis DeMontford and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz slips a jab and a cross from Gracie.
Nice sprawl there from Gracie as Diaz shoots in. Gracie closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Diaz breaks from the clinch.
Gracie clinches up with Diaz and pushes him back against the cage. Diaz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gracie gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Diaz can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keith Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gracie misses with a punch on the inside.
Diaz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Diaz goes for a takedown attempt but Gracie pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gracie. Diaz does a little dance to reset his feet. Gracie shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Diaz napping and manages to drive through into side control! Diaz is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gracie off and has taken his back! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gracie is trying to stand back up. Diaz is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Gracie is defending well though. Diaz let's go of the attempt for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie is trying to break free.
Diaz working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Diaz throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. Gracie breaks Diaz's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Diaz looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Gracie is defending well. Diaz quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Gracie has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Diaz celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Keith Diaz!
