PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Buck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Coward - Black Light Burns. Ryan Lewis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Buck!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Lewis!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Buck instigates a clinch.
Lewis wants a takedown but no success here.
Lewis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Buck avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Lewis told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Lewis tries for a takedown but Buck manages to get underhooks.
Chris Buck has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Lewis.

Buck gets control of Lewis's arms and successfully pulls guard. Buck will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Lewis wanted to stand there but Buck had control of the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Buck avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Lewis throws a head kick that misses.
Lewis tries for a takedown but Buck sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Buck is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Still in half guard, Buck seems content to control.
Lewis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lewis.
Lewis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Buck has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Buck gets to his feet - Lewis follows without any prompting.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Buck looking to score a takedown here. Lewis is defending well but Buck drives through and ends up in Lewis's guard.

Buck wants to stand but Lewis has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Lewis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Buck can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lewis sneaks back into half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lewis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Buck is working away from the top position though.

Lewis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Buck.
Buck wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lewis fails with the takedown.
Buck looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Lewis is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Lewis dives in and grabs Buck's left leg, looking for a takedown. Buck pushes down on Lewis's head and hops out.
Lewis tries to clinch but Buck moves out of range.

Buck is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Buck has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Lewis is trying to control but Buck manages to pass to mount!
Buck thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Buck sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Lewis tries to hold on but Buck pushes him away.
Buck content just to control the position here.
Lewis bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Lewis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Buck has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lewis has managed to get both his arms back between Buck's legs - danger averted.

Lewis is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Lewis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Buck not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Buck is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lewis can do to turn this around?

Lewis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Buck's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Buck's back!

I really don't envy Buck right now.

Buck manages to reverse the position and now he's in Lewis's guard. Nice work there by Buck.

Buck gets to his feet - Lewis follows without any prompting.
Buck keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Buck decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Buck wants to control from the top but Lewis keeps moving.
Buck throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lewis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well Buck has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
