Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charley Short (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Jijy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Charley Short! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Phil Jijy! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jijy shoots in but Short avoids the takedown attempt easily. Short displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jijy. Jijy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Short to score an easy takedown into full guard. Short is stalling in the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jijy is striking from the bottom but Short uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Short prevents Jijy from improving his position. Still in half guard, Short seems content to control. Short wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jijy keeps working. Jijy keeping control of the position. Nice strikes from Short there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jijy punching from the bottom.
Short is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Short could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Jijy is not content to let Short control the position. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Short content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Jijy fails with a takedown attempt. Short attempts a counter takedown but Jijy avoids it well and moves away. Charley Short has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Jijy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Short takes a kick to the body and keeps moving. Short fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Jijy fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Short wants to clinch and Jijy counters with a left to the body. Short shoots in looking for a takedown but Jijy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Short's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Jijy changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Jijy tries to clinch there but Short circles away.
Jijy moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jijy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Short swats him away and circles back towards the center. Short throws a low kick but Jijy moves out of range easily. Short tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jijy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Short somewhat. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jijy. Short is looking to counter with head kicks. Jijy shoots in and drives through. Short sprawls well. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Short darts in and clinches Jijy up against the cage. Jijy can't find room to land a body shot as Short controls the action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Charley Short dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
The fight stays on the outside here - Short looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jijy wants to counter the offense by Short and move into the clinch position. Jijy throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Jijy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Short defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jijy. Short shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jijy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Short is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Short thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Short drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Short jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Jijy is trying to hold Short in close to prevent damage but Short has managed to pass into half guard.
Short is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jijy doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Short.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Jijy is trying to maintain the position but Short is very close to passing his half guard. Short lands strikes from half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jijy can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Short is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Short is trying to work for a kimura but Jijy is defending well.
Short is keen to just control but Jijy is a slippery customer. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Short doesn't manage to clinch there - Jijy circles away.
Short shoots for a takedown but Jijy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. A head kick misses from Jijy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Jijy shoots in but no luck this time. Charley Short has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Jijy. Jijy misses with a lunging right hand
and Short counters by moving into the clinch. Jijy manages to break the clinch.

Jijy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Jijy wants to stand up but Short is controlling him. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Jijy misses with a takedown attempt and Short counters with a left and a right that stings Jijy. Jijy dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Jijy is looking to clinch but Short is avoiding it.
Phil Jijy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Short forces Jijy back against the cage and clinches. Jijy wants to break free but Short has control.

Jijy is trying to drag Short to the mat but Short just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Charley Short has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Jijy. Short jumps into guard, dragging Jijy to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Short lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Short not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jijy looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Short has picked Jijy up and slammed him! Jijy can't keep hold of the triangle and Short manages to pass to side control! Jijy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Short tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Short has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Jijy is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Short is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Jijy tries to hold on but Short pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jijy looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Jijy trying to control the hands but Short won't let him. Jijy fending off the submission attempt from Short. Jijy trying to control the action but Short just sinks the hooks in.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jijy tries to break free.
Phil Jijy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Short lands with a hammerfist to the side of Jijy's head. Jijy is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Short gets his way!
Jijy tries to escape but Short has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jijy preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Short. Short lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Short wants to control but Jijy is keeping busy. I really don't envy Jijy right now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Short working for the choke. Jijy defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Charley Short showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Short, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
