PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bass Rotten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Ronman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rotten kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Nothing Else Matters. Ronman has chosen It's A Fight as his entrance music. Bob Ronman is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bass Rotten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Ronman!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ronman shoots for a double leg takedown but Rotten sprawls well. He's pushed Ronman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rotten lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ronman backs up against the cage.
Rotten misses with a wild combination.
Rotten connects with a looping right hand.
A decent looking cross lands there for Rotten.
Ronman shoots in looking for a takedown. Rotten tries to sprawl out of it but Ronman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rotten manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Rotten swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Ronman.
A jab lands there for Rotten.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ronman takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Ronman fails with the takedown.
Bass Rotten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Ronman.

Ronman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rotten was covering up waiting for the punch and Ronman finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Ronman throws a big right hand that misses.
Rotten on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rotten tries to get out of the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ronman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rotten is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ronman is aware though and is defending well.

Rotten working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ronman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ronman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rotten has momentary wrist control but Ronman slips an elbow through the middle.

Ronman lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Rotten looking for a guillotine here but Ronman defends easily.
Rotten knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ronman on the ground.

Ronman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rotten has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ronman has managed to get both his arms back between Rotten's legs - danger averted.
Ronman content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Ronman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rotten had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ronman defends it easily.
Ronman works over Rotten with some ground and pound from guard.

Rotten has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ronman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ronman stands up over Rotten, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Rotten is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ronman is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bass Rotten will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Rotten scores with a one two! Ronman had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Ronman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ronman dives in and grabs Rotten's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rotten pushes down on Ronman's head and hops out.
Rotten misses the jab.
Ronman darts in looking for a takedown but Rotten gets double underhooks and turns Ronman into the cage.

Ronman tries for a takedown but Rotten sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rotten lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Bass Rotten is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rotten connects with a nice looking jab.
Ronman goes for a double leg but Rotten avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rotten continues to drive forward.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ronman.
Ronman takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The crowd cheers as Rotten lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ronman doesn't seem phased though.

Ronman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Ronman is breathing heavily.
Rotten smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
A jab from Rotten finds it's way through Ronman's defenses.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Ronman is rocked!
Ronman gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Ronman tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Rotten is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Ronman buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Ronman!! Ronman is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Rotten throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bass Rotten!
During a confident post fight interview, Bass Rotten thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Bob Ronman was interviewed post fight and said 'I was really looking to win this fight. I guess this isn't my day.'.
