Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Clay Mercer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 19 - 1, fighting out of London, Victor Victorious ! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Victorious clinches up with Mercer and pushes him back against the cage. A body shot lands from Mercer.
Mercer tries to work over Victorious 's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Victorious decides to pull guard. Mercer controlling from the top position. Mercer preventing the sweep. Mercer postures up.
Mercer stops Victorious from standing up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mercer controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Victorious is trying to control the position but Mercer postures up. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Mercer stops Victorious from standing up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer drops Victorious with a beautiful combination! Victorious stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Mercer is looking for the KO!
It looks like Victor Victorious has been cut. Victorious shoots in for a takedown but Mercer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Victorious pushes Mercer away with a front kick. Victorious wants to clinch. Victorious tries to clinch up. Victorious walks into a stiff left hand from Mercer. This has been an exciting period of action! Mercer throws a right hand that Victorious ducks under and follows up with a left that Victorious also avoids with ease. Mercer gets a clinch. Mercer lands an uppercut. A head punch blocked on the inside by Victorious . Mercer doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Mercer lands a body shot in the clinch.
Mercer working some nice short punches in the clinch. Victorious is trying to force a seperation but Mercer has the dominant position. Victorious wants to get back to striking at distance but Mercer won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mercer stops a takedown attempt from Victorious .
Victorious throws an elbow that misses.
Mercer softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Victorious wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mercer has him pressed against the cage. Victorious stalling against the cage.
Mercer lands a hook that snaps the head of Victorious backwards.
Victorious is rocked! Mercer lands with a light punch inside. Victorious is still on wobbly legs! Can Mercer finish him? Mercer lands a big right hand that drops Victorious ! The killer instinct kicks in and Mercer finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Mercer!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Clay Mercer! Clay Mercer opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
