PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Whiteside (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niel Seraphim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Niel Seraphim will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Whiteside!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Niel Seraphim!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Winston Alpacca and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot lands for Whiteside.


It looks like Niel Seraphim has been cut.
Whiteside changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Seraphim takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


Seraphim is rocked!
Seraphim looks for the body kick but Whiteside saw that one coming.
Seraphim is still on wobbly legs! Can Whiteside finish him?
Seraphim is looking to clinch but Whiteside is avoiding it.
Seraphim scores with a sloppy right hand. Whiteside should have avoided that one.
Seraphim seems to have recovered his senses.
Seraphim scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Seraphim is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Whiteside swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Whiteside crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Seraphim - the referee stops the clock and Whiteside gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Seraphim. Whiteside manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Seraphim lands a leg kick that knocks Whiteside off balance momentarily.
Whiteside swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Seraphim moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Whiteside throws a shot from downtown. Seraphim moves away and avoids it.
Seraphim is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Whiteside ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Whiteside seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Seraphim - that will leave a mark!
That kick from Seraphim tenderised Whiteside's leg. Whiteside is trying to keep his angry face on.

Whiteside is looking to wear down Seraphim with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Whiteside changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Seraphim looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Whiteside has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Whiteside is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Seraphim's shoulder. That is not cool.
Seraphim is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Seraphim is pressing down on Whiteside's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Seraphim wants to get back to his feet but Whiteside is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Seraphim is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Whiteside engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Whiteside fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Seraphim manages to avoid it.

Whiteside bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Seraphim is trying to improve his position.
Seraphim wants to control but Whiteside postures up.

Whiteside wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Seraphim, who protects the arm well.

Whiteside wants to lay and pray for a moment but Seraphim keeps working.
Seraphim really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Whiteside. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Seraphim is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
A lull in the action here as Whiteside stalls from top position.
Seraphim is looking for a sweep.
Seraphim manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Whiteside is looking to escape.
Whiteside tries to get to full guard but Seraphim has control of the leg.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Seraphim stalling away here and it's allowed Whiteside to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Seraphim wants to clinch up but Whiteside keeps it at a distance.
Seraphim explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Whiteside tries for a takedown but Seraphim circles away easily
and Seraphim counters with a leg kick.
Seraphim takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

and Whiteside counters with a shoot takedown. Seraphim fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Seraphim wants to get back to his feet but Whiteside is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Seraphim is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Whiteside controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Whiteside has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Whiteside stands up from Seraphim's guard - Whiteside perhaps looking for a knockout.
Seraphim throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Johnny Whiteside seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Whiteside lands with a hook. Seraphim tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Whiteside shoots in but Seraphim avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Seraphim's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Seraphim's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Whiteside cracks Seraphim with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Whiteside will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Seraphim walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Whiteside is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Seraphim.

Seraphim wants to counter the offense by Whiteside and move into the clinch position.
Seraphim throws a head kick but Whiteside moves out of range.
A little feinted left hand from Whiteside on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Whiteside connects with a nice looking jab.
Niel Seraphim is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Whiteside lands with a straight right. Seraphim didn't see that one coming.
Whiteside fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Seraphim looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Seraphim lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Whiteside throws a lazy right hand but Seraphim sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Seraphim tries a quick counter leg kick but Whiteside is wise to it.
Seraphim slips a straight right by Whiteside.
Whiteside tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Seraphim defends well and Whiteside ends up having to push Seraphim into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Whiteside. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Whiteside takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Seraphim keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Seraphim pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Seraphim has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Whiteside finds it's way round the side to connect with Seraphim's head.
Seraphim throws a quick inside leg kick.
Whiteside feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Seraphims jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Seraphim throws a low kick but it's checked well by Whiteside.
Whiteside takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Whiteside is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Seraphim can do to turn this around?

Seraphim ducks straight into an uppercut from Whiteside and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Seraphim manages to regain guard straight away.

Seraphim wants to stand but Whiteside is controlling the position.
Seraphim lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A looping hook to the body misses from Seraphim. Whiteside does a little dance to reset his feet.
Whiteside throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Whiteside lands a jab.

Whiteside drops Seraphim with a big left hand and mounts him. Seraphim is in big trouble!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Whiteside postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Seraphim in real trouble here! The ref calls for Seraphim to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johnny Whiteside!
