PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tobikan Judan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takeru Masaru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Masaru comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Naked And Famous - Young Blood kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 14 - 1, fighting out of London, Tobikan Judan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Takeru Masaru! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Judan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Masaru counters with a nice leg kick. Masaru feints and then cracks Judan's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Judan down. Masaru throws a leg kick which misses Judan's front leg but catches the back leg as Judan tries to avoid it. Masaru looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Nice jab there from Masaru. No luck with that takedown attempt from Judan. Masaru explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Judan fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tobikan Judan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Judan shoots in but Masaru avoids the takedown attempt easily. Judan has a takedown stuffed. Masaru lands with a shot to the body. Judan takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Masaru bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Masaru tries to score with some ground and pound. Judan controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Judan trying to remain calm as Masaru controls from the top position. Judan is looking to regain half guard here but Masaru keeps moving and retains side control. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Masaru avoids the strikes from the bottom by Judan. Judan is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Judan regains half guard. Masaru wants to control but Judan is keeping him busy. Masaru passes to side control. Masaru advances to mount. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Masaru can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Judan is looking to escape. Masaru controlling from the full mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Masaru prevents Judan from getting the reversal. Masaru is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Judan can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Judan tries to hold on but Masaru postures up. Masaru is working for a guillotine from mount but Judan frees his head quite easily.
Masaru tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Judan working to try and regain half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Masaru controlling from the full mount. Judan is looking to get to half guard. Judan is squirming around, avoiding Masaru's attempts to control the action. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Takeru Masaru dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Masaru lands a nice looking kick to the body. Judan takes a step back to recover. Judan throws out a leg kick but Masaru moves out of range and Judan only half commits. And Masaru tries to counter it with a takedown but Judan pushes his down on his head and steps out. A solid leg kick lands there for Masaru.
Judan tries to clinch but fails miserably and Masaru counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Masaru throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Judan was covering up waiting for the punch and Masaru finishes the takedown easily into guard. Judan looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Judan is on top in guard.
Masaru tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Judan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Masaru works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Masaru has his hands on Judan's head, controlling the position. Judan trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Masaru manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Masaru trying to control the position from guard on top but Judan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Judan throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Masaru preventing the sweep. Masaru wants to control from the top but Judan keeps moving. Masaru slips nicely into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Masaru seems to be looking for submissions.
Masaru seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Judan is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Takeru Masaru! A less than humble Takeru Masaru misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
