PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sydney Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taylor Dam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sydney Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Taylor Dam!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis fails to land with a series of punches.
Dam looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Dam looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Dam shoots and misses
and Lewis counters with a straight right hand.
Dam dives in and grabs Lewis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lewis pushes down on Dam's head and hops out.
Lewis closes the distance and clinches up with Dam, looking for a takedown. Lewis pushes Dam against the cage but Dam circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Dam wants to counter with a clinch but Lewis pushes him away.

Lewis scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Lewis is trying to control. Dam wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Lewis missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Lewis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Lewis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dam is staying active underneath Lewis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Lewis working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Lewis thows a huge punch but Dam dodges it nicely.
Lewis sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dam defending well though.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Lewis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dam defends it well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lewis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Lewis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dam looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lewis tries to score with some ground and pound. Dam controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Lewis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Dam, who protects the arm well.
Lewis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dam on the ground.
Dam can't do much from the bottom here.
Dam is pushing Lewis's head away, looking to escape. Lewis manages to hold on to the position though.
Lewis tries to stand but Dam is controlling his head.
Dam tries to bench press Lewis off him but Lewis keeps the position.

Dam parries the strikes from Lewis easily there. Lewis is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Dam to escape.
Lewis wants to control but Dam is keeping him busy.
Lewis is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Dam is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Lewis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Lewis shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dam is trying to defend but Lewis finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

We've been informed that Dam has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Lewis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dam's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lewis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dam's waist but Dam gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lewis off to one side.
Dam is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Dam gets tackled into the cage by Lewis. Lewis maintains the clinch.

Lewis wants to hit a switch here but Dam passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Lewis there!
Dam thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Lewis is working to get back to half guard.
Dam trying to control but Lewis is having none of it.

Dam is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Lewis has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Lewis!

Dam avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Lewis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dam is proving hard to escape from.
Dam is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lewis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Dam utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Lewis engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Lewis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dam is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lewis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Lewis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dam defends well and Lewis ends up having to push Dam into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Lewis or perhaps it was just good defense by Dam, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sydney Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lewis moves in looking to clinch but Dam pushes him off.
Dam flicks out a counter leg kick but Lewis steps away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lewis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lewis tries to clinch up but Dam circles away and keeps his distance.
Lewis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sydney Lewis dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Dam throws a sloppy head kick and Lewis moves out of range easily.

Lewis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Lewis stands up over Dam, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Lewis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dam can do to turn this around?

Sydney Lewis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lewis creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Dam sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Lewis throws a strike aimed at the side of Dam's head but Dam avoids it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lewis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lewis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Dam dodges the ground and pound from Lewis.

Dam tries to improve position but can't.
Lewis in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Lewis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dam knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Lewis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dam keeps working.
Lewis working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Lewis is looking to take a break and control but Dam is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lewis shoots in but no luck this time.
No luck for Lewis with that takedown attempt.
Taylor Dam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dam darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Lewis is in trouble now - Dam has advanced to mount!

Dam is working for a guillotine from mount but Lewis frees his head quite easily.

Dam is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Lewis has managed to escape the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sydney Lewis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lewis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
