Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Hart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hart's entrance music is Bang Your Head. A fine choice. Maynard has chosen Roy Jones - Can't Be Stopped as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be a great matchup!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hart checks a leg kick. Hart shoots in and bounces Maynard off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Hart wants to control from the top but Maynard keeps moving. Hart tries to free his leg and advance position but Maynard is retaining full guard. Hart missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Hart controls from within his opponent's guard. Hart is looking to advance position but Maynard has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Hart working to try and regain half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hart is working hard here to advance position. Maynard fails to move to back control. Hart tries to hold on but Maynard postures up. Maynard looking to control and managing it successfully. Hart is trying to escape the mount.
Maynard looking to secure an arm triangle but Hart defends it well. Hart bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Hart trying to control but Maynard is working from the bottom. Maynard wants to sweep here but Hart controlling him for the moment. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Maynard keeping full guard, as Hart tries to pass. Maynard is trying to control the position but Hart postures up. Maynard keeping moving, preventing Hart from controlling successfully. Maynard had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hart is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Maynard Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hart's back instead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Hart's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Maynard is trying to stick to Hart's back but Hart is turning into Maynard. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Maynard's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Hart. Hart in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hart showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Maynard.
Max Maynard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hart misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hart tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Maynard wants to clinch. Hart throws a head kick but Maynard moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Maynard finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Maynard tries to clinch up. Maynard with a lazy takedown attempt and Hart counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Hart dips to his left and cracks Maynard with an uppercut! Maynard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Maynard scores with a hook. Hart blocks a head kick by Maynard.

Hart drives through with a takedown into guard. Maynard looks gassed! Hart trying to control the position from guard on top but Maynard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hart tries to free his leg and advance position but Maynard is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bret Hart dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Hart throws a hook but Maynard blocks it. Maynard tries to clinch but fails miserably and Hart counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Maynard!
Maynard is rocked! Hart not landing any meaningful shots this time. Hart wants to pass to mount but Maynard is defending the position. Maynard manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maynard keeping moving, preventing Hart from controlling successfully. Hart slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Hart is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Maynard has escaped the position, nice work there. Maynard is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maynard wants to control but Hart postures up. Hart tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Hart staying calm. Maynard is trying to control Hart's posture but Hart avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Maynard is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hart off and has taken his back! Hart tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Hart keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Maynard can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hart is looking to escape. Hart tries to get back to half guard but can't. Maynard controlling from the full mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hart is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hart slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Maynard is looking to take a break and control but Hart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hart wants to improve his position but Maynard is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Maynard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Maynard controlling from the top position. Maynard passes Hart's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Hart wants to improve his position but Maynard is controlling well.
Hart makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hart. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maynard throws a hook but Hart blocks it. Hart circles away from the clinch attempt and Hart decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Maynard's guard. Maynard keeping full guard, as Hart tries to pass. Maynard avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hart accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hart pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Maynard is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hart pushes down on Maynard's leg and manages to get into half guard. Maynard pushes Hart off looking to stand but Hart dives back in and keeps control.

Bret Hart overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hart advances to mount. Maynard is looking to improve his position but Hart isn't that keen on the idea. Maynard is squirming around, avoiding Hart's attempts to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hart lands with some strikes. Hart throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Maynard gets back to half guard. Hart thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Maynard's head. Hart wants to advance to full mount but Maynard doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Hart throws and elbow that misses. Maynard uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hart's guard. Nice move by Maynard! Maynard drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hart looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hart looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hart! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hart looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maynard gets back to half guard. Hart throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Hart trying to advance position but Maynard counters by regaining guard. Hart throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maynard works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Maynard looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Hart is defending well. Maynard quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Hart has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Maynard celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
