Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
20 - 17 - 1, fighting out of New York, Edmundo Edilhson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Tebato Nakara! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jab, jab by Nakara - just one landing. Edilhson throws a shot to the body.
Edilhson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Edilhson lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Nakara fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nakara misses with a combination
and Edilhson counters with a single leg into guard. Nakara didn't expect that. Nakara looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Edilhson wants to pass the guard but Nakara is keeping the position. Edilhson scoring with punches to the head and body. Nakara looking to hit a scissor sweep but Edilhson is one step ahead there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edilhson trying to control but Nakara is working from the bottom. Nakara is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Edilhson is aware though and is defending well. Nakara tries to land a sweep but no joy. Edilhson is stalling in the full guard. Nakara keeping moving, preventing Edilhson from controlling successfully. We've been hearing good reports from Edilhson's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Edilhson is pushing down on Nakara's leg trying to pass to half guard. Nakara is fighting to maintain full guard but Edilhson has managed to sneak the leg through. Nakara is looking to improve his position.
Nakara won't allow Edilhson to pass to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Edilhson lands strikes from half guard. Edilhson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Edilhson is looking to advance position but Nakara won't allow it. Edilhson is trying to control the action in half guard but Nakara is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Still in half guard, Edilhson seems content to control. Edilhson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Edilhson is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Nakara as he works his way to full guard.
Nakara is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Nakara is pressing down on Edilhson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Edilhson is holding on for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nakara is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Edilhson is controlling Nakara's position as best he can from this difficult position. Nakara thows a huge punch but Edilhson dodges it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Nakara winds up and cracks Edilhson with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Nakara is stalling here. Edilhson is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Nakara seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Edilhson has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Nakara is looking for a sweep. Nakara takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Nakara struggling a bit here. Nakara tries to buck Edilhson off but Edilhson is having none of it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nakara takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Nakara sneaks back into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Edmundo Edilhson dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Edilhson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Edilhson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Edmundo Edilhson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Nakara is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Edilhson's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Nakara manages to get to full guard.
Edilhson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nakara is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Edilhson, into his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nakara trying to control but Edilhson is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nakara tries to free his leg and advance position but Edilhson is retaining full guard. Nakara postures up in Edilhson's guard and throws a big left but Edilhson blocks it. Nakara wants to pass the guard but Edilhson is keeping the position. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nakara accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Edilhson keeping moving, preventing Nakara from controlling successfully. Nakara stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Edilhson has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Nakara manages to get his head free but now Edilhson has transitioned to an armbar! Nakara grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Edilhson! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Edmundo Edilhson! A very excited looking Edmundo Edilhson made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
