Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Orange Joe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Johns! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johns tries a head kick but it misses.
Joe avoids the head kick by Johns.
Joe takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Joe looks to score with a jab to the body but Johns is just out of range. Johns needs to keep his hands up - Joe had a free shot at his head there. Jab by Joe. Johns misses with a low kick. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Joe crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Johns - the referee stops the clock and Joe gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Johns. Joe manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Johns looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Johns throws a leg kick but Joe moved away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johns throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Joe has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Ultimate MMA Training Center in the buildup to the fight. Joe uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Joe takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Joe scores with a jab. Johns acknowledges it with a nod of the head. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Joe throws a wild body kick that Johns sees coming a mile off. Johns was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joe lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Johns uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Joe. Joe throws a lazy right hand but Johns sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Johns walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Joe avoids the head kick by Johns.
Johns takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Johns is rocked! Joe drops Johns with a straight right hand, right on the button! Joe follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Orange Joe! Orange Joe seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website. Jimmy Johns spoke after the fight, saying 'Congratulations to my very worthy opponent. Today just wasn't my day, but rest assured that I will be back stronger than ever. '.
