Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gregory Griffith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevlar Gomez! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Griffith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Gomez on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Gomez is trying to get back to full guard. Griffith scoring with strikes to the body and head. Griffith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Griffith sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gomez defending well though. Gomez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Griffith scores with a couple of nice shots. Griffith not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Griffith lands a nice short elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Griffith blocks the strikes from Gomez.
Gomez tries to roll over but Griffith keeps him under control. Gomez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Griffith pulls his head out easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griffith is nestled in close to Gomez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Griffith missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Griffith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gomez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Griffith knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gomez on the ground. Gomez wants to control but Griffith is keeping busy.
Griffith is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Gomez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Griffith's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Griffith's back! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griffith is trying to break free.
Gomez trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Griffith is trying to stand back up. Griffith rolls, trying to escape but Gomez keeps control of the position.

Gomez looking for the rear naked choke. And he's got it! Griffith taps!
