PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Walken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Hoe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoe has chosen Ivanhoe theme as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Ivan Hoe told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Christopher Walken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ivan Hoe!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walken waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hoe.
Hoe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hoe drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Walken defends it well.
Hoe tries to land a front kick but Walken steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Hoe lands a front kick.
Walken misses with a looping left.
Hoe throws out a loose jab but Walken uses good head movement to avoid it.
Walken throws a left and a right that both miss

and Hoe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hoe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hoe throws a big right hand that misses.
Hoe trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hoe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Walken works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoe wants to control from the top but Walken keeps moving.
Hoe passes Walken's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Hoe trying to pass the guard but Walken defending well.

Hoe prevents Walken from improving his position.
Hoe controlling the action here.
Walken trying to control but Hoe postures up.
Walken knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hoe on the ground.
Hoe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hoe working the head and body with strikes.
Hoe thows a huge punch but Walken dodges it nicely.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hoe trying to control from half guard but Walken is working away.
Hoe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Walken is trying to maintain the position but Hoe is very close to passing his half guard.
Hoe scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Walken tries to roll over but Hoe keeps him under control.
Hoe not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Walken has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hoe is working away from the top position though.
Hoe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hoe missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hoe is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Walken is just riding it out for now. Hoe eventually gives up the hold.
Hoe has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at German Top Team. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Hoe tries to pass the half guard into mount. Walken knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Walken wants to control but Hoe is keeping busy and won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hoe is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Hoe is pressing down on Walken's thigh, looking to free his foot. Walken is holding on for now.
Walken is trying to get back to full guard.
Hoe landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Walken keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hoe wants to take a breather but Walken is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hoe tries to pass to full mount but Walken defends it.
Hoe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Hoe dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Walken dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hoe. That did some damage!
Walken tries to clinch there but Hoe circles away.
Hoe ducks under a wild hook from Walken.
Hoe scores with a push kick.
Walken checks a low kick from Hoe.
Walken cracks a nice hook into Hoe's ribs.
Hoe circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hoe looks to land a right hand but Walken moved out of range.
Walken connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hoe's hands.
The fighters circling - Walken throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Walken moves into the clinch successfully.
Walken is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoe lands with a left to the head.
Hoe gets through Walken's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Walken is trying to break free.
A nice right hand lands inside from Hoe.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hoe scores with a nice hook to the head.
Hoe softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Walken pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hoe fails with the takedown.

Hoe darts in and clinches Walken up against the cage.
Walken swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Walken wants to get back to striking at distance but Hoe won't allow it.

Walken's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Walken fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hoe connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Hoe shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walken as he jumps to the side.
Walken was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Hoe scores with a kick to the body.
Walken leaves Hoe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Walken is looking to counter punch.
Christopher Walken has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Hoe.
Hoe lands with a nice body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Walken throws a body punch but Hoe moves out of range.
Christopher Walken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walken connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hoe. Hoe circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Walken fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Walken avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Walken closes the distance and clinches.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hoe breaks the clinch.
Walken scores with a jab. Hoe acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Walken is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Walken moves out of range of the body kick from Hoe.
Walken moves in looking to clinch but Hoe pushes him off.
Walken looks to land a left hand but Hoe moved out of range nicely.
Hoe connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Walken catches Hoe with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Hoe's jab looks to have found its range, popping Walken under the eye.
Hoe slips under a jab.
Hoe lands an overhand right.
Walken is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Hoe takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Walken throws a head kick but Hoe moves out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fight stays on the outside here - Walken looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Christopher Walken is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Walken slaps away a takedown attempt from Hoe, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hoe throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Walken jabs Hoe right on the nose. Hoe blinks but takes it well.

Hoe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Walken napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Sloppy strikes there by Hoe.
Hoe wants to control but Walken is keeping him busy.
Hoe lands a few punches from side control.
Walken tries to buck Hoe off but Hoe is having none of it.
Walken stops Hoe from passing to mount.
Hoe is putting a hurting on Walken here, landing some big shots from side control.

Hoe lands a nice forearm strike.
Hoe advances nicely into full mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hoe unloading with bombs!
Walken is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Hoe has hold of Walken's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Walken manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Walken tries to hold on but Hoe pushes him away.
Walken is trying to escape the mount.

Hoe is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Walken can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Hoe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Hoe shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hoe is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Hoe trying to control but Walken is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hoe cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Hoe throws some wild stikes that Walken manages to avoid easily.

Walken tries to lock up and control but Hoe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Hoe connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Walken wants to hold on but Hoe pushes him away.
Walken is trying to escape the mount.

Hoe is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Walken to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Walken shrugs it off.
Hoe can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Walken is looking to escape.
Ivan Hoe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hoe dominating with strikes here.
Walken tries to lock up and control but Hoe gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Christopher Walken has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Hoe looking to control and managing it successfully.
Walken is bucking up trying to escape but Hoe cracks him with another couple of good strikes.


It looks like Christopher Walken has been cut.
A big strike lands for Hoe! That's really hurt Walken and he's turned his back - Hoe keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Hoe jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ivan Hoe!
Ivan Hoe made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'This is what Hoes do, finish the guys.'.
