PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rony Moraes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rony Moraes told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Rony Moraes!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moraes shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Jones is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Moraes.
Moraes takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Moraes wants to land a leg kick but Jones is out of range.
Moraes uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jones.
Moraes walks into a stiff left hand from Jones.
Moraes scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Some wild striking there from Jones.
Jones misses with a looping left.
Moraes feints the counter takedown.

Moraes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jones is looking to regain half guard here but Moraes keeps moving and retains side control.
Jones parries the strikes from Moraes easily there. Moraes is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jones to escape.

Jones scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Jones throws a shot from downtown. Moraes moves away and avoids it.
The crowd cheers as Jones lands an impressive looking overhand right. Moraes doesn't seem phased though.
Moraes misses with a low kick as Jones jumps back.
Jones dips to his left and cracks Moraes with an uppercut!
Moraes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jones.
Jones misses with a double jab.

Moraes drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Moraes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Moraes is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Moraes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jones knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Moraes on the ground.

Moraes postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Moraes tries to advance to mount but Jones denies him.

Moraes is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.

Jones gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Moraes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.

Moraes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Moraes slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Moraes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jones lands a glancing blow to the side of Moraes's head.
It looks like Jones has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Moraes closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Jon Jones is winning the standup battle so far.
Moraes walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A jab from Jones finds it's way through Moraes's defenses.


Moraes is rocked!
Moraes takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Moraes is still on wobbly legs! Can Jones finish him?
Moraes misses with a head kick.
Jones fires a straight punch through the middle that cracks Moraes square on the jaw! Damn, Moraes is out cold on his feet and topples face first to the canvas! Wow, I haven't seen a knockout that brutal in a long time!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jon Jones!
An out of breath Jon Jones thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
