Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Stuart Dew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rudy Loens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Loens has chosen Rocky theme song as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Stuart Dew could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Rudy Loens's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stuart Dew!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rudy Loens!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dew shoots in and bounces Loens off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Dew controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Loens working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Dew.
Dew looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Loens keeping moving, preventing Dew from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dew throwing strikes but missing.
Dew stays in close to Loens's body and controls the position.
Dew definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Dew trying to control but Loens is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Loens gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dew to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Loens is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dew is controlling him.
Dew seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Loens is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Dew's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Loens is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dew is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Loens lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dew circles away quickly and effectively.

Loens has managed to clinch.
Dew is trying to drag Loens to the mat but Loens just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Loens prevents the takedown attempt.
Dew is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stuart Dew. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dew drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dew gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Dew looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Loens wants to get back to his feet but Dew is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dew trying to control the position from guard on top but Loens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stuart Dew dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Loens works over Dew's head and body with a nice combination.
Loens lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Loens.


It looks like Stuart Dew has been cut.
Dew shoots for a double leg takedown but Loens sprawls well. He's pushed Dew's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Dew thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Stuart Dew overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Dew is stinking the place up with his stalling.

Dew drops back looking for a leg! Loens is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Loens manages to kick Dew off! Dew jumps back into Loens's guard.

Dew prevents Loens from getting back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Dew slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Loens falls off balance throwing a combination

so Dew counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dew controls from within his opponent's guard.
Dew is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Loens can do to turn this around?

Dew is looking to work some ground and pound but Loens has wrist control.
Dew is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Dew is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Dew drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dew jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Dew postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Loens is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dew, into his guard.

Dew has control of Loens's left arm, preventing Loens from doing any damage.
Loens wants to stand but Dew is controlling his posture from full guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Loens working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Dew looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Loens wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Dew's closed guard. He's half up but Dew has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Dew pivots and extends the arm, Loens falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Dew! Well done that man!
