Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Edwin Elpidio! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ram Man Rijal! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rijal does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Rijal tries to score a power double leg takedown but Elpidio sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rijal somewhat. Elpidio swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Rijal tries for a takedown but Elpidio circles away easily and Elpidio counters with a nice uppercut. Ram Man Rijal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Elpidio scores with a punch to the head. Rijal connects with a solid leg kick. Rijal blocks a jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A combination from Elpidio does no damage. Rijal cracks the inside of Elpidio's front leg. Rijal throws a body shot but no joy. Rijal fails in his attempt to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. A combination from Elpidio does no damage. A telegraphed right hand from Elpidio misses the target. Elpidio throws the left hand but Rijal avoids the punch easily. Rijal wants to clinch and Elpidio counters with a lovely straight right hand! Elpidio throws a lazy right hand but Rijal sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Elpidio stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Rijal. Rijal fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Elpidio. Rijal lands a jab to Elpidio's midsection. Elpidio is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Rijal tries to close the distance and clinch but Elpidio swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rijal tries to land a leg kick but Elpidio saw it coming and moves away.
Edwin Elpidio is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Rijal throws a sloppy body shot
enabling Elpidio to counter with a crisp jab.
Rijal is rocked! Elpidio ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Rijal tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Elpidio manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Elpidio checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. It looked like Elpidio wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Elpidio swats away the attempt to clinch by Rijal. Rijal tries to clinch up. Elpidio connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Rijal is still on wobbly legs! Can Elpidio finish him? Rijal tries to clinch but Elpidio moves away and Elpidio counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Rijal out cold! What a finish! Elpidio is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Edwin Elpidio! Edwin Elpidio retains his light heavyweight title! Edwin Elpidio was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
