PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sero Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liu Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sero Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Liu Kang!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kang lands the left hand.

Kim gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kim keeps control of Kang as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kang wants to break the clinch but can't.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Kim.
Kim lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Liu Kang has been cut.
Kang is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Kim is stalling here.
Kim prevents Kang from breaking the clinch.
Kang wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kim has him pressed against the cage.

Kim manages to break the clinch.
Sero Kim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kim shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kang pinned against the cage. Kang gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kang throws a leg kick that misses.
Kang is looking to land body kicks.
Kang lands a front kick.
Kang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kim moves out of range as Kang throws a body kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Kim.

Kang gets a takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kang has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Kim works to full guard.
Kang looks gassed!

Kim bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kang's guard.
Kang is looking to stand up but Kim isn't so interested in that idea.
Kim will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kim controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kang wants to stand but Kim is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kang is looking to stand back up but Kim counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Kang.
Kang won't allow Kim to pass to mount.
Kang is trying to stand back up but Kim is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Kim seems content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kang makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Kim lands a slapping body shot.
Kim lands a nice looking body kick.
Kang should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Kim stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kang.
Kim blocks a head kick by Kang.
Kang throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Kim counters with a nice low kick that buckles Kang's knee momentarily.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Kang has eaten all the pies!
Kang stuffs the takedown attempt from Kim. Kim gets slowly back to his feet.
Kang misses with a leg kick

and Kim counters by clinching up.
Kim prevents Kang from breaking the clinch.
Kang wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Kang is looking to break free of the clinch but Kim has double underhooks.

Kang breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kim misses with a double jab.
Kim fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kang throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kim wants to clinch up but Kang keeps it at a distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kang swats away the attempt to clinch by Kim.
Kang has a takedown stuffed.
A head kick misses from Kim.
Kang tries to land a front kick but Kim steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Kang fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Kim checks it well.
Kim connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Kim fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kang throws a head kick that Kim semi-blocks.
Kim looks to score with a jab to the body but Kang is just out of range.
Kim misses with a body kick.
Kim closes the distance and clinches up with Kang, looking for a takedown. Kim pushes Kang against the cage but Kang circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sero Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kim looking to land some kicks to the body here.
An inside leg kick lands from Kang.
Kang feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Kim's calf.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Liu Kang will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Liu Kang's cut.
That's time! Kim's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kim misses with a low kick.
Kim misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kang keeps the fight on the outside.
Kim is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kim tries to clinch up but Kang circles away and keeps his distance.
Kim ducks right into an uppercut from Kang.
Kim defending well as Kang loads up on a big left hand.
Kim is looking to clinch but Kang is avoiding it.
A slapping leg kick lands for Kim.
Kim moves out of range of the body kick from Kang.
Kang tries a head kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kim throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kang.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kang moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
An inside leg kick from Kang misses.
Kim takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Some bone on bone action there as Kang checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Kang just misses with a punch to the body.

Kang goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Kang throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Kang fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kim throws a series of punches but Kang avoids them all with ease.
Kim takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Sero Kim is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kim wants to clinch up but Kang keeps it at a distance.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Kang. Kim shrugs it off though.
Kang will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kang feints and then cracks Kim's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kim down.
Kang scores with a crisp jab that stopped Kim in his tracks.
Kang looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kim is fending him off so far but Kang persists. Nope, Kim circles away and we're back to standing.
Sero Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liu Kang.
Kang avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kang checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Kim lands with a nice body kick.
Kang looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Kang cracks Kim with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kang fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kim manages to avoid it.
Kim tries to clinch but Kang moves out of range.
Kang circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kim throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Kim pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kang looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kim is fending him off so far but Kang persists. Nope, Kim circles away and we're back to standing.
Nice takedown defense from Kim. No joy for Kang on that attempt.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kang swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kim sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Kim wants to clinch.
Kim misses with the body kick
and Kang counters with a low kick, right behind Kim 's knee.
Kim stuffs the takedown.
Kim slips under a jab.
Kim takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Kang looks to land a body kick but Kim moved away.
Kang tries to work over Kim's front leg with a kick but Kim checks it.
Kim throws a head kick but Kang moves out of range.
Kim misses with a two punch combination.
Kang misses with a takedown attempt - Kim sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kang.

and Kang counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kang wanted to stand there but Kim had control of the position.

Kang decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Kim connects with a solid leg kick.
Kang scores with a nice body kick.
Kim avoids a kick to the body.
Kim blocks a head kick by Kang.
Kim tries to clinch but Kang moves away

and Kang counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kim wants to get back to full guard.
Kang tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Kim.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Liu Kang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Liu Kang's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Kang moves away from the strike by Kim.
A head kick misses from Kim.
Kim tries to clinch but Kang moves out of range.
Kang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kim as he avoids it easily.
Kim throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kang's head.
Kang blocks the body kick.
Nice body kick there by Kim.
Kim will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Kim throws a nice inside leg kick.
Kang throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Kim scores with a leg kick.
Kim sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kang explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Kim moves out of range of the body kick.
Kim misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kim fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kang throws the left hand but Kim avoids the punch easily.

Kang lands a nice leg kick that just misses Kim's sensitive parts.
Kang avoids the head kick by Kim.
Kim looks to land a body kick but Kang moved away.
Liu Kang seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kang throws a nice head kick!
Kim looks to land a combination. Kang sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Kang throws a head kick but Kim moves out of range.
Kang lands a front kick.
A low kick from Kang misses
and Kim counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Kim tries for a takedown but Kang sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kang fails with a takedown attempt.
Kang throws a head kick but Kim moves out of range.
Kim throws a nice looking combination but Kang bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kang is looking to land body kicks.
Kang misses the shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Kim crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kang - the referee stops the clock and Kim gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kang. Kim manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Kang misses with a straight right.
Kim closes the distance and clinches up with Kang, looking for a takedown. Kim pushes Kang against the cage but Kang circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kim moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Kim moves out of range of the body kick from Kang.
Kim plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Kang has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Kang has a takedown stuffed.
Sero Kim has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liu Kang.
Kang throws a half hearted mid kick.
Kang is looking to score with low kicks.
Kang tries a head kick but it misses.
Kim lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kim.

and Kim counters with a takedown into side control.
Kang is trying to get back to his feet.
Kim controlling from side mount.

Kang pushes Kim away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kim gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Kang is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kang gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Kang tries to buck Kim off but he can't manage it.
Sero Kim has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kim looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Liu Kang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kang taking shots to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sero Kim showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
