Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Claud Clay! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Veiga! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Veiga scores to the head and body with a nice combination! A head kick misses from Clay. Veiga shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Clay's guard. Veiga must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Clay lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Clay makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Veiga wants to stand up but Clay is controlling him. Clay has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Clay drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Clay jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Clay trying to stand up but can't free himself from Veiga's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Veiga can do anything to dispel that myth. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Clay's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Clay thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Veiga had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Clay defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clay has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Veiga is proving hard to escape from. Veiga wants to stand and escape but Clay is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Veiga wants to sweep here but Clay controlling him for the moment. Veiga has a closed guard, preventing Clay from standing up. Veiga wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Clay is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Veiga. Veiga lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Veiga. Nice sprawl there from Veiga as Clay shoots in. Veiga throws a right and a left that both miss. A leg kick checked by Veiga. Clay sets himself, and Veiga steps forward looking for the clinch! Clay avoids it this time. Clay bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Veiga is looking to reverse the position. Clay taking a breather here. Clay decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Veiga misses with a series of wild punches.
Veiga scores with a takedown into Clay's guard. Clay bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Veiga's guard. Clay postures up and lands a big shot to Veiga's brow. Clay lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Clay stands up from Veiga's guard - Clay perhaps looking for a knockout. Veiga rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Clay moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Clay just misses with a punch to the body.
Veiga lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Veiga. Veiga fails to land with a series of punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Veiga moves into the clinch. We've been informed that Veiga has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. This has been an exciting period of action! Clay breaks from the clinch.
Veiga takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Clay throws a leg kick that is checked and Veiga counters with a lovely straight right hand! Veiga throws a series of punches but Clay moves out of range. Veiga moves into the clinch. Clay has Veiga pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Veiga manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Veiga gets underhooks to prevent Clay's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Claud Clay. That's going to take a lot out of him. Clay manages to break the clinch.
Clay fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Clay fails with a takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marcos Veiga dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Veiga lands with a nice combination. Clay backs away looking to recover. Veiga cracks a nice hook into Clay's ribs. Veiga clinches. Veiga is defending well against a takedown attempt. Veiga has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Veiga is trying to break free. Veiga wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Clay drops down looking for an ankle pick but Veiga pulls his leg out and moves away.
Clay avoids the head kick by Veiga.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Veiga lands with an uppercut that bounces Clay off the cage and back into range. Veiga lands a two punch combo.
Clay shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Veiga's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Clay working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clay gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Sloppy strikes from Veiga. Those never looked like landing. Veiga scores with a body shot.
Clay takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Veiga!
Clay has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Clay there as he acknowledges the shot. Clay with a poor takedown and Veiga makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Claud Clay. That's going to take a lot out of him. Veiga is breathing heavily. Clay takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Clay fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Veiga clobbers Clay with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Clay throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Veiga wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Clay has him pressed against the cage. Veiga tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Clay turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Veiga is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Clay is controlling him well. Clay working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Veiga is trying to get back to his feet. Veiga tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Clay wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Veiga can't do much from the bottom here. Veiga tries to control but Clay manages to take his back. Veiga wants to get back to his feet. Clay lands strikes to the head. Clay scores with punches from the back.
Clay gets his hands free as Veiga looks to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Clay scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Veiga is looking for a way out. Clay working for the choke. Clay is persistently looking for the submission but Veiga is defending it well.

Marcos Veiga showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Clay tries to keep at a distance but Veiga has taken the fight into the clinch. Clay has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Veiga avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Clay comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Veiga looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Veiga gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Clay.

Come on Veiga, up you get! Nice jab there from Veiga. Clay gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Veiga pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Clay back to the cage. Veiga follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Marcos Veiga is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Veiga works Clay's body with a nice hook. Veiga fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Marcos Veiga seems to be getting the better of the standup. Clay darts in looking for a takedown but Veiga gets double underhooks and turns Clay into the cage. Veiga wants to counter the offense by Clay and move into the clinch position. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Claud Clay. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clay will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Veiga will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Veiga has taken the fight to the clinch.
Veiga wants to break free but Clay has control.
Clay prevents Veiga from breaking the clinch. Clay's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Veiga looks to land a combination but Clay avoids it well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Veiga connects with a looping right hand.
Veiga throws a right and a left that both miss. Clay takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Veiga decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Clay looks like he's trying to stand up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Veiga with the ground and pound but Clay uses the opportunity to regain guard. Clay manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Veiga manages to get himself to full guard.
Veiga wants to stand but Clay is controlling the position. Clay gets to his feet. Veiga looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Marcos Veiga is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Clay misses with a head kick.
Clay tries to move into range but Veiga moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Clay gets tackled into the cage by Veiga. Veiga maintains the clinch. Clay wants a takedown but no success here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Clay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Veiga throws a push kick but Clay slaps the foot to one side. Veiga steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Clay. Clay takes one to the side of the head.
Veiga has Clay up against the cage in a clinch.

and Veiga counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Clay gets caught napping as Veiga dives in and scores a takedown. Clay manages to retain guard. Claud Clay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! This has been an exciting period of action! Clay throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
And that's the end of the fight! Marcos Veiga comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Veiga winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
