Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrey Lapis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Griffiths (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lapis's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Once Solemn . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Stephen Griffiths!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Illya Tyunina and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Lapis.
Griffiths wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Griffiths avoids a punch combination nicely.
Griffiths throws a nice outside leg kick.
Griffiths avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Andrey Lapis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stephen Griffiths.
Griffiths shoots in looking for a takedown but Lapis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Griffiths's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Griffiths shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Lapis is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Griffiths.

Lapis stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Griffiths throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
We've been informed that Griffiths has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Lapis looks to land a right hand but Griffiths moved out of range.

Lapis went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Griffiths's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Griffiths keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Lapis's efforts to push away.
Lapis has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

That was a close round but I would say that Andrey Lapis will probably get the nod.

Griffiths doesn't have the hooks in and Lapis manages to turn into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lapis is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Griffiths has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Lapis is looking to defend but Griffiths has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Lapis! Griffiths pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Lapis taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Stephen Griffiths! Stephen Griffiths retains his welterweight title!
Our winner, Stephen Griffiths, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
