Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Boris Tumenov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Eirik Rivfader! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tumenov looks to land a left hand but Rivfader moved out of range nicely. As Tumenov backs off Rivfader throws a huge counter combo but Tumenov manages to avoid it all. A telegraphed right hand from Tumenov misses the target. Tumenov takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Tumenov misses with a straight left. Rivfader moves out of range as Tumenov strikes. Rivfader tries to counter by closing the distance. Boris Tumenov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rivfader swats away the attempt to clinch by Tumenov. Rivfader avoids the body shot from Tumenov.
Rivfader fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Tumenov to the ground. Rivfader is now in Tumenov's guard. Rivfader is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Rivfader stands and steps away. Tumenov gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Rivfader scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Tumenov taking some punishment here, with Rivfader in his half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivfader is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rivfader looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rivfader stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Tumenov to get to his feet. Tumenov lands with a nice body punch. Rivfader closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Tumenov is pressed up against the cage. Rivfader has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Tumenov down to the mat. Tumenov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A telegraphed right hand from Tumenov misses the target. Rivfader shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rivfader showed some decent athleticism there. Rivfader drops an elbow to the side of Tumenov's head. Rivfader is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rivfader looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Rivfader slows the pace down in half guard. It looks like Rivfader might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Nice strikes from Rivfader there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Rivfader takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Tumenov wants to control the action here but instead Rivfader manages to pass to full mount! Rivfader controlling from mount. Rivfader get's back to his feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Tumenov tries to clinch there but Rivfader circles away.
Boris Tumenov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Tumenov misses with a looping left. Rivfader decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Eirik Rivfader dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Rivfader shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Tumenov is trying to defend but Rivfader finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Rivfader is looking to advance position but Tumenov won't allow it. Tumenov tries to get to full guard but Rivfader has control of the leg. Rivfader not doing much here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tumenov is looking for a sweep. Rivfader is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Tumenov trying to control here.
Rivfader perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Rivfader scores with a one two! Tumenov had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
It looks like Boris Tumenov has been cut. Nice uppercut lands for Tumenov. That snapped Rivfader's head back.
Rivfader looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Ground and pound from Rivfader.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivfader takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Rivfader is nestled in close to Tumenov, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Rivfader slips a nice elbow through Tumenov's hands, connecting with Tumenov's forehead. Tumenov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tumenov tries to get out of the position. Rivfader is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Tumenov is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
