Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Klay Strausser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Klay Strausser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Diego Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Strausser shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Strausser is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mendes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Strausser.
Strausser tries to pass to full mount but Mendes defends it.
Strausser working Mendes over with strikes.
Strausser thows a huge punch but Mendes dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mendes is looking to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mendes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Strausser passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mendes!

Mendes bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Mendes throws a big elbow that misses.
Strausser has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Strausser has momentary wrist control but Mendes slips an elbow through the middle.
Strausser utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mendes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Mendes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Strausser has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mendes has managed to get both his arms back between Strausser's legs - danger averted.

Mendes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Strausser is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mendes, into his guard.

Strausser sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Mendes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Strausser gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mendes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Strausser defends it easily.
Strausser connects with a couple of short punches.

Strausser lands a couple of elbows.
Strausser is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Strausser tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendes is retaining full guard.

Mendes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Strausser defends well.
Mendes keeping moving, preventing Strausser from controlling successfully.

Strausser got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mendes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Strausser has managed to get both his arms back between Mendes's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendes throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Strausser escapes and throws Mendes's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Mendes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Strausser. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Strausser decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mendes to his feet.

Strausser gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Strausser tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mendes just stands there and leans against the cage.
Mendes with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Strausser stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Strausser dodges an elbow strike from Mendes.
Mendes lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Mendes with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mendes slaps away a takedown attempt from Strausser, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mendes.
Mendes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mendes throws a head kick that half lands.
Strausser closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mendes circles away.
Strausser works Mendes's body with a nice hook.

Strausser closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Strausser is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mendes can do to turn this around?
You can see the frustration on Mendes's face as Strausser controls the position.
Strausser gets to mount! Mendes was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mendes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mendes is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Strausser is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Strausser has escaped and now he's on top!

Mendes is not content to let Strausser control the position.
Strausser cracks Mendes with a big right hand but Mendes just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Mendes tries to buck Strausser off but Strausser is having none of it.

Strausser wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mendes, who protects the arm well.

Strausser decides to stand back up.

Mendes tries to sprawl but Strausser drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Mendes won't allow Strausser to pass to mount.
Mendes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Strausser seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Klay Strausser overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mendes is not content to let Strausser control the position.

Mendes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Strausser pulls his head out easily.
Mendes tries to get to full guard but Strausser has control of the leg.

Mendes is staying active underneath Strausser, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Strausser fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Mendes is in a horrible position here. Strausser smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Mendes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Strausser lands a heavy elbow.
Mendes is trying to reverse the position but instead Strausser has taken his back - oops!
Strausser is punishing Mendes with some ground and pound.

Strausser keeps control of the position as Mendes tries to break free.
Strausser biding his time, looking for the opening.
Strausser seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mendes for as long as he can get away with.
Mendes is keeping busy.
Mendes tries to roll but Strausser sticks to his back.
Strausser controls the action.
You can see the frustration on Mendes's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Mendes is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Mendes can't escape the position.

Strausser has his arm under Mendes's chin here. Game over son! Strausser squeezes tightly and Mendes is forced to tap out!
