PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnson Frederick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edison Rama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnson Frederick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edison Rama!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frederick dives in for a single leg takedown but Rama sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rama.
Rama shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rama clinches.
Rama has Frederick pushed against the cage.
Rama prevents Frederick from breaking the clinch.
Rama is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Frederick pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Johnson Frederick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edison Rama.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frederick tries to circle away but Rama has him pinned against the cage.
Frederick swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Frederick lands a hook to the side of the head.
Rama keeps control of Frederick as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Rama manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Rama escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rama goes for a double leg but Frederick avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Frederick continues to drive forward.
Frederick seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Rama tries for a takedown but Frederick circles away easily
and Frederick counters with a stiff right hand.
Frederick stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Frederick wants it to stay on the feet.
Rama pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Edison Rama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Frederick tries for a takedown but Rama circles away easily
and Rama counters with a left and a right that stings Frederick.

Rama moves into range and clinches up with Frederick.
Frederick tries to break free but Rama pushes him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rama tries to stall but Frederick uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Rama breaks from the clinch.
Frederick shoots in for a takedown but Rama shows good takedown defense.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rama or perhaps it was just good defense by Frederick, which made it look bad.
As Rama tries to get set, Frederick tries to push him back and clinch up but Rama manages to avoid the attempt.

Rama instigates a clinch.

Rama jumps guard.
Rama lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rama tries to stand but Frederick is controlling from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frederick keeping full guard, as Rama tries to pass.
Frederick bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rama's guard.

Frederick in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Frederick trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Frederick drops back looking for a leg! Rama is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rama manages to kick Frederick off! Frederick jumps back into Rama's guard.

Frederick would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Frederick will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Frederick really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rama is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Frederick wants to get up but he can't break Rama's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Rama is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rama looks winded!
Rama wants to stand but Frederick has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Frederick tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Frederick is looking for a sweep. Rama is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edison Rama dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Rama clinches.

Rama manages to break the clinch.
Rama fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rama pulls out of a head kick attempt.
As Rama tries to get set, Frederick tries to push him back and clinch up but Rama manages to avoid the attempt.
Rama should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Rama looks to land a body kick but Frederick moved away.

Rama closes the distance and clinches.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Rama manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Frederick wants to break free but Rama has control.
Frederick wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rama has him pressed against the cage.

Rama breaks the clinch.

Rama moves into range and clinches up with Frederick.
Frederick is trying to break free.
Rama is looking to take this one to the mat.
Rama has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Frederick avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Rama has closed the distance and engaged Frederick in a clinch.
Frederick wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rama has him pressed against the cage.

Rama has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rama tries for a takedown. No joy.
Frederick has had enough of the clinch but Rama keeps him there for the moment.
A head punch on the inside from Frederick fails to land.

Rama's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Rama drives through and clinches with Frederick against the cage.
Frederick swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Edison Rama seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Rama is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Frederick to keep the fight standing.
Rama on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Frederick manages to break the clinch.
Frederick stalks Rama and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rama's face. Rama staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Frederick is trying to break free.

Rama tightens his grip and picks Frederick up, before dumping him to the ground. Frederick manages to land in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Frederick wants to sweep but no luck.
Rama tries to free his leg and advance position but Frederick is retaining full guard.
Frederick doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rama is stalling in the full guard.
Frederick looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rama is one step ahead there.
Rama wants to control from the top but Frederick keeps moving.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Frederick throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Rama wants to control from the top but Frederick keeps moving.
Rama sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Frederick can't keep his opponent in guard - Rama advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Frederick tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Frederick wants to control but Rama is keeping busy.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edison Rama showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Frederick shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rama as he jumps to the side.
Rama shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Frederick defends it nicely.
It looked like Frederick wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Rama wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Rama tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Frederick defends well and Rama ends up having to push Frederick into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Frederick changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Frederick shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Frederick showed some decent athleticism there.
Frederick wants to stand up but Rama has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Frederick throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rama is trying to maintain the position but Frederick is very close to passing his half guard.

Frederick landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Frederick is working for a kimura but Rama is defending it quite comfortably.

Frederick seems to be looking for submissions.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rama is trying to maintain the position but Frederick is very close to passing his half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rama fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Johnson Frederick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edison Rama.

Rama shoots in for a takedown but Frederick shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Rama shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Frederick as he avoids it easily.
Frederick tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rama defends well and Frederick ends up having to push Rama into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
No luck for Frederick with that takedown attempt.

Frederick forces Rama back against the cage and clinches.
Johnson Frederick has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Edison Rama is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Frederick fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnson Frederick showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Rama has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
