PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ismael Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trenton Strait (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ismael Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trenton Strait!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strait wants to clinch.
Foster could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Strait scores with a head kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Strait.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Foster with a lazy takedown attempt
and Strait connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Strait clinches.

Foster jumps into guard, dragging Strait to the mat.

Strait stands and steps away. Foster gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foster shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Strait defends it nicely.

Foster closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Strait quickly recovers to half guard.

Foster stands up out of the half guard.
Strait shoots and misses

and Foster counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Foster breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Trenton Strait seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Foster misses with a takedown

and Strait counters by clinching up.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ismael Foster. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Strait drags the fight down to the ground.
Foster tries to stand but Strait is controlling from the bottom.
Strait working a defensive guard but Foster passes into half guard.
Strait is trying to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Strait makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Strait.
Strait wants to sweep but no luck.

Foster gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Strait feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Foster looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Foster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Strait doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Strait manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Strait is fighting to break Foster's control of his arms but Foster is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Strait stands up over Foster, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Strait must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Foster looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Foster working a defensive guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Trenton Strait will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Strait tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Foster tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Strait manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A little jabbing left from Strait on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Strait is trying hard to land a takedown here. Foster sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Foster misses with a body shot.
Foster fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Strait wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Strait drives through and clinches with Foster against the cage.

Foster pulls guard successfully.
Foster is pulling down on Strait's head. It's preventing any offense from Strait, at least for the moment.
Strait wants to control from the top but Foster keeps moving.

Strait stands up from Foster's guard - Strait perhaps looking for a knockout.

Strait scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Strait looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Strait is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Foster is just riding it out for now. Strait eventually gives up the hold.
Foster looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Foster is trying to control but can't.
Strait stops Foster from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Strait tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Foster.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Foster is trying is best to control the position here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Strait fails with an attempt to clinch.

Foster gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Strait to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Foster wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Foster continues to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Foster keeping moving, preventing Strait from controlling successfully.
Foster is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Strait in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Strait is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Foster keeping full guard, as Strait tries to pass.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trenton Strait showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A kick lands to the mid section there for Strait.
Strait changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Foster tries to avoid it but Strait manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Foster to the ground. Foster escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Foster stuffs the takedown attempt from Strait. Strait gets slowly back to his feet.
Strait looks to land a combination but Foster avoids it well.
Strait fails in his attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Foster takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Strait uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Foster.
Strait lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Foster at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Foster tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Strait swivels and escapes.
Strait has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Strait darts in and clinches Foster up against the cage.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Strait. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Strait is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Foster to keep the fight standing.
Ismael Foster has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Trenton Strait.
A frustrated look appears on Foster's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Strait ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Strait no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Strait takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Foster sitting in guard here, content to control.
Strait is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Foster throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Strait works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Strait is trying to keep Foster in close.

Strait scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Strait tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Foster swivels and escapes.

Foster looking to score a takedown here. Strait is defending well but Foster drives through and ends up in Strait's guard.
Strait working a defensive guard but Foster passes into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Strait is looking to control Foster's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Strait avoid being mounted?
Foster controlling the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Foster tries to stand but can't do so whilst Strait controls his leg.
Foster perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Strait trying to get back to full guard but Foster takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Strait is trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Foster working for a submission but Strait is keeping him at bay.
Trenton Strait has got the better of the ground game so far.
Foster landing shots from mount.
Foster controlling the position easily from mount.
Strait is desperately trying to improve his position but Foster has a good base and remains in mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Foster looking to control and managing it successfully.
Ismael Foster has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Trenton Strait is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Foster lands a couple of good shots and Strait has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ismael Foster.
I think Strait has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
