Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Marshall Key (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ian Hames (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marshall Key!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ian Hames!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hames closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Key manages to get to full guard.
Hames looking to sit in guard and control but Key gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Hames manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Hames drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Key working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hames doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hames manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hames stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Key swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Key tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hames is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hames postures up in Key's guard and throws a big left but Key blocks it.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hames trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Hames is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Key is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Key has escaped and now he's on top!

Hames preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Key is in close to Hames's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Key really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Key wants to stand but Hames has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Key missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Key drops back looking for a leg! Hames is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hames manages to kick Key off! Key jumps back into Hames's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Key tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hames paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hames shoots in for a takedown but Key shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Hames scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The fighters are battling for position here. Key manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Hames trying to control but Key is working from the bottom.

Key had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hames defends it easily.
Key keeping full guard, as Hames tries to pass.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hames wants to control from the top but Key keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ian Hames dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Hames takes the fight into the clinch.

Hames has hold of one of Key's legs. Key is fighting the takedown attempt but Hames gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Ian Hames has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hames wants to pass the guard but Key is keeping the position.

Hames drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Key manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hames has Key in his guard.

Hames really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Key. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Key not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Key works over Hames with some ground and pound from guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hames can do anything to dispel that myth.

Key wants to get up but he can't break Hames's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Key throws a big right hand that misses.
Key throwing strikes but missing.
Hames is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hames closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Hames stalling away here and it's allowed Key to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hames content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Key has locked up a guillotine! Key's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Hames is holding on here and Key must be using up a lot of energy. Hames has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Key gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Marshall Key!
