Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ichi Takeshi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brabo Garcia! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garcia tries a head kick but it misses.
Takeshi fails with a takedown attempt. Takeshi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Garcia's half guard. Garcia wants to control but Takeshi is keeping busy and won't allow it. Takeshi trying to control the action but Garcia is working from the bottom. Takeshi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Garcia with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Garcia misses with some strikes from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Takeshi has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Takeshi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Takeshi landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Garcia has one foot on Takeshi's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Takeshi moves into the clinch. Garcia is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Takeshi pulls him back up using the underhooks. Garcia tries a knee to the head but Takeshi blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Garcia is fighting off a takedown attempt but Takeshi is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Garcia to the mat. Garcia regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Takeshi passes easily into side control. Nice work. Takeshi scores with punches from side control. Takeshi has hold of Garcia's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Garcia seems comfortable defending it but Takeshi has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Garcia is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Garcia is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Takeshi couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ichi Takeshi! A very excited looking Ichi Takeshi made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
