Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wess West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregor Mendel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wess West!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gregor Mendel!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

West fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mendel sprawls well initially but West persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
West looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Mendel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but West pulls his head out easily.
Mendel is trying to stand.
West prevents Mendel from improving his position.

Mendel wants to get back to full guard.

Mendel is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but West has just dragged him back down to the mat.
West is looking to take a break and control but Mendel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mendel is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on West's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mendel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Mendel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but West pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
West is trying to control. Mendel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
West thows a huge punch but Mendel dodges it nicely.
Mendel pushes West off looking to stand but West dives back in and keeps control.
West thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
West will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mendel moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
West knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendel on the ground.
Mendel lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

West looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mendel is one step ahead there.
West pulls Mendel in close to prevent any damage.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Mendel is looking to control West's arms but West gets an underhook and turns him. Now Mendel has his back to the cage.
Mendel pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

West pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
West scores with a hook.

West drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Mendel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and West defends well.
West missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Mendel wants to stand and escape but West is having none of it.
West is looking to stand up but Mendel won't let him.

West works over Mendel with some ground and pound from guard.
West wants to control from the top but Mendel keeps moving.
West tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendel is retaining full guard.
West looking to sit in guard and control but Mendel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Mendel stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Mendel throws a body kick that misses
and West counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Mendel, right into the meat.
West fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mendel looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Mendel tries to keep at a distance but West has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mendel trying to control the position but instead, West has worked for underhooks and has pushed Mendel into the cage.

West manages to break the clinch.

Mendel throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Mendel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
West tries to bum rush Mendel with a series of wild strikes but Mendel uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mendel fakes the leg kick and cracks West in the body.

West has taken the fight to the clinch.
West dodges an elbow strike from Mendel.

West pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

West closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mendel's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
West won't allow Mendel to get back to his feet.
Wess West overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Mendel tries to score with a low kick but West moves his leg out of the way.
West lands a nice looking body shot.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Mendel.

West shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mendel eats them both and turns towards West to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Mendel tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. West manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mendel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
West is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
West avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Mendel tries to close the distance and clinch but West swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mendel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

West clinches with his opponent.

A frustrated look appears on West's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Mendel tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

West feints and as Mendel raises his hands in defense, West changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
West seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mendel misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from West.
Mendel throws the kick towards the body but West avoids it.
Mendel takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Mendel steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from West.
Mendel looks for the body kick but West saw that one coming.
Mendel takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Mendel walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. West checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Mendel tries to close the distance and clinch but West swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
West wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

West drives through with a takedown into Mendel's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Well West has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
