PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adryan Preuss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palmer comes into the arena with Sans Pression - Numero 1 blaring out of the sound system. Adryan Preuss told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George Palmer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Adryan Preuss! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Preuss is looking to clinch. Palmer misses with a body shot.
Preuss clinches up against the cage. Palmer is pushing Preuss up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Preuss pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Preuss stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Palmer. Preuss moves in looking to clinch but Palmer pushes him off. Palmer attempts a counter takedown but Preuss avoids it well and moves away. Preuss tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Palmer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Palmer circles away from the clinch attempt.
Palmer throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Palmer throws a jab but it's blocked by Preuss. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Preuss fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Palmer, pushing him back against the cage. Stalling in the clinch from Palmer.
Palmer goes for a takedown attempt but Preuss pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Preuss tries to close the distance and clinch but Palmer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Preuss wants to clinch and Palmer counters with a shoot takedown. Preuss fights it but they end up in guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Preuss can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Palmer controls the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Palmer looking to pass the guard. Preuss is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Palmer is controlling him. Preuss is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Palmer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Palmer slips nicely into half guard. Palmer looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Palmer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Palmer is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Preuss sees it coming and defends easily. Palmer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Palmer moves nicely into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Palmer controlling from side mount. Palmer working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Palmer tries for a kimura but Preuss is defending well. Palmer wants to control but Preuss is keeping him busy. Preuss really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Palmer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Palmer is working to tighten his grip on Preuss's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Preuss has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Palmer is really squeezing tight and eventually Preuss passes out! Palmer breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). George Palmer! Post fight, an emotional George Palmer said 'This win just snapped my three-fight losing streak! Woohoo! It‘s time for a topless party!'.
