PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ryan might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Girlfriend. Red has chosen Method Man and Redman - Da Rockwilder as his entrance music. Mr Red has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 55 - 26 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mr Red!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Ryan.
Red bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ryan misses with a hook. Red ducked under it nicely.
Red changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Ryan misses with a looping right.
Ryan looks to land a right hand but Red moved out of range.
Red tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ryan defends well and Red ends up having to push Ryan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Red gets the takedown into side control.
Red staying calm.
Ryan tries to buck Red off but Red is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Red tries to move to mount but Ryan blocks the move with his legs.

Red tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Red content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Ryan misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Red tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The referee asks Red politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Red prefers to stall for the moment though.
Ryan wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Ryan is looking to regain half guard here but Red keeps moving and retains side control.

Red working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Red tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Red passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Ryan!
Ryan is desperately trying to improve his position but Red has a good base and remains in mount.
Red looking to control and managing it successfully.
Ryan keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Red tries to control but Ryan wriggling away.
Ryan has given up his back here.
Ryan rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Red wants to free his trapped foot but Ryan is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Ryan wants to get back to his feet.
Ryan won't allow Red to pass to mount.
Red passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Ryan!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Red can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ryan is looking to escape.
Ryan bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Red manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ryan manages to get himself to full guard.

Ryan has control of Red's left arm, preventing Red from doing any damage.

Ryan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ryan keeping moving, preventing Red from controlling successfully.
Red slips nicely into half guard.
Red takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Ryan manages to get to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Red tries to free his leg and advance position but Ryan is retaining full guard.
Ryan wants to get back to his feet but Red is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Red stands and throws Ryan's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Red dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ryan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Red shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Ryan tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Red has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Ryan manages to control the position for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red wants to take Ryan's back here but Ryan is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Ryan is in all sorts of trouble here.
Ryan is squirming around, avoiding Red's attempts to control the action.
Red has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ryan is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Ryan manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Ryan is looking to control Red's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ryan avoid being mounted?
Red passes the guard and advances to mount!
Ryan is wriggling around trying to escape.
Red sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Mr Red has got the better of the ground game so far.
Red wants to control the pace but Ryan is squirming around nicely.
Ryan prevents Red from taking his back.

Red is working for a guillotine from mount but Ryan frees his head quite easily.

Ryan is not content to let Red control the position.
Ryan is looking for a sweep. Red is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ryan looks like he's trying to stand up.

Ryan is trying to control but can't.

Red passes to side control.
The referee asks Red politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Red prefers to stall for the moment though.
You can see the frustration on Ryan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Red has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Ryan working to try and regain half guard.
Ryan wants to try and get back to his feet.
Red pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Ryan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Ryan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Red is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Ryan tries to buck Red off but Red takes his back!
Well, with Red on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Ryan is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
What can Ryan do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Red manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ryan manages to get himself to full guard.

Ryan throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Red showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ryan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Red looks for a takedown but Ryan sprawls well.
Ryan swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Ryan misses with a hook. Red ducked under it nicely.
Red slips under a jab from Ryan.
Red tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Red tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ryan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Red somewhat.
Ryan misses with a looping left.
Red takes one to the chin there.
Jake Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Red doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Ryan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jake Ryan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mr Red.
Red looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Red misses with a left hand
and Ryan counters with a low kick, right behind Red 's knee.
Ryan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Red ducks under a wild hook from Ryan.
Ryan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Red was well out of range. Poor timing from Ryan.
Ryan lands a really nice looking cross but Red seems unphased.
Ryan is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Red drives through with a takedown into Ryan's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Ryan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ryan pulls Red in close to prevent any damage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ryan is on top in guard.

Ryan stands and throws Red's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Red is trying to control Ryan's posture but Ryan avoids it.
Red tries to bench press Ryan off him but Ryan keeps the position.
Mr Red is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ryan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Red sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ryan wants to control from the top but Red keeps moving.
