PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Erik Thorvaldson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chong Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Li has chosen Chong Li's Bloodlust as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Erik Thorvaldson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chong Li!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, David Hoff and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thorvaldson's corner calls for a 1-2. Thorvaldson obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Li throws a shot to the body.
Li connects with the punch.
Nice cross by Thorvaldson.
Thorvaldson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Thorvaldson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Li stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Thorvaldson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Thorvaldson misses the shot to the body.
Li has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Thorvaldson looks to land a right hand but Li moved out of range.
Li swings away with a body shot that misses
and Thorvaldson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Li misses with an uppercut
and Thorvaldson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Thorvaldson gets tackled into the cage by Li. Li maintains the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Thorvaldson creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Li pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chong Li seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Li throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Li misses with an uppercut. Thorvaldson saw that one coming.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thorvaldson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Li was well out of range. Poor timing from Thorvaldson.
Li throws a right hand that misses
and Thorvaldson counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Chong Li has been cut.
Li dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Li takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.


Li is rocked!
Li walks right into a perfectly timed right hook and goes down hard! He's out cold! The ref cradles Li limp body while Thorvaldson jumps on to the cage and waves to the roaring crowd. Wow that was just a brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Erik Thorvaldson!
Erik Thorvaldson tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
