PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Reaper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reaper comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Praise kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Shane Reaper told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anderson Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Reaper!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reaper clinches with his opponent.
A short uppercut from Reaper.
Reaper using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Alves has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Alves is working for takedown but Reaper is calmly controlling the position for now.
Knees in the clinch landing for Alves.

Alves ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alves no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Reaper misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Reaper is looking to advance position but Alves won't allow it.

Reaper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alves. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Reaper is working for an americana but Alves has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Reaper was thinking about the submission.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alves has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reaper can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Reaper seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Alves has his foot on Reaper's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Reaper works his way back into a safe position though.
Reaper wants to stand but Alves is controlling his posture from full guard.

Alves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Alves is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Reaper stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alves swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alves had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Reaper is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Alves Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Reaper's back instead.

Reaper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alves swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Alves looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Reaper clinches up with Alves and pushes him back against the cage.

The is referee keeping an eye on Reaper - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Alves tries to pull guard but Reaper won't allow it.

Alves has Reaper pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Reaper manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Reaper lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Alves backwards.

Reaper creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Alves's defenses.
Alves drops down looking for an ankle pick but Reaper pulls his leg out and moves away.

Alves keeps the fight on the outside.
Reaper pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Alves shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Reaper pinned against the cage. Reaper gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Reaper looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Alves is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Reaper pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Reaper is pressed up against the cage. Alves has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Reaper down to the mat. Reaper avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Shane Reaper seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Alves trying to control the position but instead, Reaper has worked for underhooks and has pushed Alves into the cage.

Shane Reaper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Alves tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Reaper smiles and moves away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Reaper clinches with his opponent.
Reaper lands a shoulder strike.
Reaper lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Reaper throws a head punch that misses.

Alves decides to pull guard.
Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Reaper's guard.
Reaper doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Reaper is keeping the position.
Reaper not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Alves postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alves throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Reaper works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Alves working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Anderson Alves.
I think Alves has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
