Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
24 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Honey Badger! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Zarek Reschke! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Badger blocks a leg kick. Reschke misses with a looping right. Reschke connects with an inside leg kick. Reschke misses with a wild body shot. Badger displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Reschke throws out the jab. Reschke throws a big shot that misses. Reschke throws a nice looking combination but Badger bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Reschke throws out a leg kick but Badger moves out of range and Reschke only half commits. Reschke scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Badger avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Badger checks a leg kick nicely. Reschke misses with a leg kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Reschke gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Badger lands a left hand that snaps the head of Reschke backwards. Badger escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Reschke lands with a hook. Badger tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Badger keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Reschke darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reschke thows a left - swing and a miss! Badger was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Reschke ducks under a wild hook from Badger. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Reschke! But no joy. Reschke dips to his left and cracks Badger with an uppercut! Reschke wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Reschke misses with a hook. Badger ducked under it nicely. Reschke throws a jab when Badger was well out of range. Badger throwing a counter right hand but Reschke manages to avoid it. Badger swings widly with a right hand
and Reschke cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Reschke throws out a loose jab but Badger uses good head movement to avoid it. Reschke jabbing away but nothing is landing. Reschke throws an overhand right that lands on Badger's shoulder, as Badger tries to avoid the shot. Badger comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Reschke walks into a jab. Badger pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zarek Reschke is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Badger misses with a lunging right hand
and Reschke counters with a good low kick that Badger was not able to check. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Reschke scores with a jab to the body. Badger swings away with a body shot that misses
enabling Reschke to counter with a crisp jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reschke ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Badger moves away. Reschke scores with a nice head shot. Reschke cracks Badger with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Badger falls to his knees and Reschke doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:17 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Zarek Reschke! Zarek Reschke was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
