The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw shoots for a takedown but Carlova saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Shaw avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Carlova counters with a left and a right that stings Shaw.
Shaw shoots in looking for a takedown but Carlova manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shaw's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
It looked like Carlova was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Carlova lands with a kick to the temple. Shaw shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Shaw dodges an elbow strike from Carlova.

We've been informed that Shaw has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Shaw has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Carlova is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Carlova drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Shaw pushes Carlova off and scrambles back to his feet.

Shaw is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Carlova is just riding it out for now. Shaw eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carlova scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Shaw manages to mount him!

Shaw can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Carlova is looking to escape.

Shaw looking to control but Carlova is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Shaw sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shaw stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Shaw gets tackled into the cage by Carlova. Carlova maintains the clinch.

Shaw is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Carlova gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Carlova tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Shaw manages to circle out of the way.

Shaw is pressing down on Carlova's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carlova is holding on for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shaw looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
