Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ichiro Kosugi!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kosugi takes a swing at Jones's ribcage but misses.
Jones takes one to the side of the head.
Kosugi finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Jones looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Jones has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kosugi finds it's way round the side to connect with Jones's head.
Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kosugi.

Kosugi drives through with a takedown into Jones's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Kosugi is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jones wants to free his trapped foot but Kosugi is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Kosugi still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Kosugi has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kosugi trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.
Jones is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kosugi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.

Jones darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Kosugi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Kosugi is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jones's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jones's back!
My spies in Hells Balls Grappling Academy inform me that Kosugi has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kosugi is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Jones with him. Jones is trying to defend but Kosugi has an arm under the chin now! Jones grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ichiro Kosugi!
