PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between DJ Knowles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ross Gellar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gellar has chosen Stray Cat Strut as his entrance music. Knowles has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, DJ Knowles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ross Gellar!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Knowles gets caught flat footed, as Gellar shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Gellar has gone for a leg lock! Knowles slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gellar's guard.

Gellar is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Knowles is aware though and is defending well.

Gellar working for a triangle but Knowles defends it easily.
Gellar is pulling down on Knowles's head to control his posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gellar is looking to sweep but instead, Knowles has passed into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Knowles is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gellar is just riding it out for now. Knowles eventually gives up the hold.
Knowles wants to free his trapped foot but Gellar is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Gellar wants to improve his position but Knowles is controlling well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gellar is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Knowles wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gellar keeps working.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gellar throws a nice looking combination but Knowles bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Gellar controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gellar throws a big elbow that misses.

Gellar stands up from Knowles's guard - Gellar perhaps looking for a knockout.

Gellar shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gellar in particular looking to stall.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gellar decides to stand and escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Gellar throws a head kick but Knowles moves out of range.
Knowles drops down looking for a counter takedown but Gellar sprawls and moves away.
Gellar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gellar takes the fight into the clinch.

Gellar is trying to trip Knowles. He has hold of a leg but Knowles is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Gellar persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Knowles will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gellar looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gellar tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gellar wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Ross Gellar has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gellar keeping moving, preventing Knowles from controlling successfully.
Knowles tries to free his leg and advance position but Gellar is retaining full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Knowles wants to pass the guard but Gellar is keeping the position.

Knowles wants to control from the top but Gellar keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gellar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Knowles tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gellar is in Knowles's guard.
Gellar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gellar stands up and waves to Knowles to follow him.

Gellar darts in and clinches Knowles up against the cage.

Gellar successfully pulls guard.

Gellar kicks Knowles off and gets to his feet.

Gellar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Knowles manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Knowles pushes Gellar off and scrambles back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gellar drives through and clinches with Knowles against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Gellar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Danga de danga de dang - Gellar scores with a four punch combination!
Gellar throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Gellar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Gellar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gellar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Knowles. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gellar looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Knowles!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Knowles is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Knowles seems a little lost for a moment, as Gellar dominates the positioning.

Gellar stands up.
Gellar tries to bum rush Knowles with a series of wild strikes but Knowles uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Knowles appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Gellar shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Knowles napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Gellar is working for a kimura but Knowles is defending it quite comfortably.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Gellar is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gellar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
DJ Knowles has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gellar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Knowles works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ross Gellar is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ross Gellar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gellar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
