Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doug Stampede! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kang Lee! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lee closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Lee swings around for an armbar but Stampede sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Lee's guard. Stampede drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lee manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stampede has Lee in his guard. Stampede trying to keep a closed guard but Lee is proving a slippery customer.
Lee sitting in guard here, content to control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lee is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stampede wants to sweep but no luck. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Lee's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's one minute gone in the round. Lee is pushing down on Stampede's leg trying to pass to half guard. Stampede is fighting to maintain full guard but Lee has managed to sneak the leg through. Lee thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stampede's head. Lee is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Lee seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Lee stalling. Lee has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Lee is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Lee seems to be working for a kimura but Stampede defends the submission attempt. Stampede is looking for a sweep. Lee is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Lee drops an elbow to the side of Stampede's head. Lee scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Lee has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Stampede defend it? Lee steps over the head and cranks it - Stampede is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Lee!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kang Lee!
