Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Edward Phelps (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert The Sponge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edward Phelps! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert The Sponge! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The Sponge shoots in for a takedown but Phelps shows good takedown defense. A head kick misses from Phelps. Phelps could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. The Sponge misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Nice takedown defense from Phelps. No joy for The Sponge on that attempt. Phelps seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Edward Phelps has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert The Sponge. Phelps punishes The Sponge's body with a nice straight punch. The Sponge fails with the takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Phelps wants to land a leg kick but The Sponge is out of range. The Sponge tries for a takedown but Phelps circles away easily and Phelps counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps The Sponge thinking.
That's one minute gone in the round. Phelps throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. The Sponge tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Phelps is in The Sponge's guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now The Sponge is on top in guard.
The Sponge is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The Sponge stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Phelps swivels though and keeps the full guard. Phelps throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Phelps is trying to control the position but The Sponge postures up. Phelps is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The Sponge slips nicely into half guard. The Sponge wants to control but Phelps is keeping him busy. Phelps is trying to control but can't.
The Sponge prevents Phelps from standing back up.
Phelps might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The Sponge prevents Phelps from improving his position. Phelps is not content to let The Sponge control the position. The Sponge is thwarting Phelps's attempts to control the position. Phelps gets back to full guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. The Sponge tries to score a power double leg takedown but Phelps sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten The Sponge somewhat. The Sponge shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. The Sponge fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Phelps avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The Sponge tries to sprawl but Phelps drives through with a takedown into half guard. The Sponge manages to get to full guard.
Phelps wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of The Sponge's closed guard. He's half up but The Sponge has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! The Sponge pivots and extends the arm, Phelps falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by The Sponge! Well done that man!
