Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darin Kelley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Happy Hippy! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown attempt by Hippy or perhaps it was just good defense by Kelley, which made it look bad. Hippy fails with a takedown attempt. Hippy fails to land the takedown. Darin Kelley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Happy Hippy. Kelley moves into the clinch successfully.
Hippy prevents Kelley from breaking the clinch. Hippy is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kelley pulls him back up using the underhooks. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hippy wants a takedown.
Kelley has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Hippy takes a knee right on the jaw!
That's one minute gone in the round. Hippy changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kelley fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Kelley tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hippy paws at him with a jab and circles away. Hippy tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Hippy fails with the takedown. Hippy shoots for a double leg takedown but Kelley sprawls well. He's pushed Hippy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Kelley slaps away a takedown attempt from Hippy, before circling back to the center of the mat. Hippy has a takedown stuffed. Hippy looks winded! Hippy gets tackled into the cage by Kelley. Kelley maintains the clinch. Hippy has Kelley pressed against the cage, preventing Kelley from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Hippy drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kelley breaks from the clinch.
Hippy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily letting Kelley counter with a right hand. Hippy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kelley sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hippy somewhat. Kelley clinches up against the cage. Kelley is trying to force a seperation but Hippy has the dominant position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelley wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hippy has him pressed against the cage. Kelley misses with an elbow strike.
Kelley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hippy goes for a double leg but Kelley avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kelley continues to drive forward. Kelley appears to be looking for a big counter. Happy Hippy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kelley drives through and clinches with Hippy against the cage.
Kelley has had enough of the clinch but Hippy keeps him there for the moment. Hippy is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Kelley lands a knee to the head.

Kelley rushes Hippy and presses him up against the cage. Kelley tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kelley wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kelley turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kelley manages to end up in side control. Kelley lands an elbow. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kelley is looking to take a break and control but Hippy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Kelley wants to control for a moment but Hippy uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Darin Kelley dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Kelley gets a clinch. Kelley gets control of Hippy's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kelley will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Hippy sitting in guard here, content to control. Kelley looking for a sweep. Not yet Kelley, not yet. Kelley can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hippy controls the pace. Hippy preventing the sweep. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kelley throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Hippy preventing the sweep. The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hippy shoots in for a takedown but Kelley shows good takedown defense. Hippy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kelley swivels and escapes. Kelley tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Hippy manages to circle out of the way. Hippy shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kelley but Kelley pushes him off and we're back to square one. Darin Kelley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Happy Hippy. Hippy is breathing heavily. Kelley tries to clinch up. Kelley wants to clinch up but Hippy keeps it at a distance. Kelley stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kelley wants it to stay on the feet. Hippy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kelley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Hippy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kelley's waist but Kelley gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hippy off to one side. As Hippy looks to move away, Kelley throws a big counter combo bu Hippy just gets out of the way. Hippy with a lazy takedown attempt and Kelley counters with a left and a right that stings Hippy. Hippy swats away the attempt to clinch by Kelley. Kelley closes the distance and clinches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kelley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Horrible takedown attempt by Hippy or perhaps it was just good defense by Kelley, which made it look bad. Kelley thinks about countering with a head kick. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Hippy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hippy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Kelley counters with a left and a right that stings Hippy. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kelley tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hippy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Kelley fails in his attempt to clinch. Darin Kelley is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Kelley clinches. Kelley is trying to break the clinch but Hippy has him pressed against the cage. Kelley wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Hippy tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kelley defends well and Hippy ends up having to push Kelley into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Kelley went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Hippy keeps the fight on the outside. Kelley wants to clinch. Darin Kelley dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kelley might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hippy prevents Kelley from improving his position. Hippy controlling the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hippy is looking for a kimura but Kelley is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hippy to get the leverage. Hippy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hippy moves into full mount! Kelley won't be happy about that! Hippy controlling from mount. Hippy tries to control but Kelley wriggling away. Kelley keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Hippy tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Kelley is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Hippy is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kelley can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Hippy prevents Kelley from getting the reversal. Hippy jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kelley manages to avoid the submission attempt. Kelley is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Hippy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Kelley counters with a series of strikes. Hippy will be more careful next time no doubt. Kelley moves into the clinch. Kelley lands a takedown into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelley is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Hippy looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Kelley looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Kelley tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hippy swats him away and circles back towards the center. Kelley feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Darin Kelley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kelley wants to control from the top but Hippy keeps moving. Hippy trying to keep a closed guard but Kelley is proving a slippery customer.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kelley wants to control from the top but Hippy keeps moving. Happy Hippy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Darin Kelley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
And that's the end of the fight! Darin Kelley showed his dominance in that final round. Well Kelley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
