Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Renato Ruiz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wilson Mamado! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruiz closes the distance and pushes Mamado back into the cage. Mamado lands a body shot. Mamado gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ruiz regains guard.
Mamado throwing strikes but missing. Ruiz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ruiz wants to sweep but no luck. Mamado trying to control but Ruiz is working from the bottom. Mamado is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mamado postures up in Ruiz's guard and throws a big left but Ruiz blocks it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruiz keeping moving, preventing Mamado from controlling successfully. Mamado has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Mamado slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Mamado stopping the sweep attempt from Ruiz.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mamado is in close to Ruiz's body, working some short punches and elbows. Mamado is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Ruiz wants to sweep but no luck. Mamado landing some decent shots from guard. Mamado throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Mamado pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ruiz is keeping the position for now. Mamado stopping the sweep attempt from Ruiz. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Mamado pushing down on Ruiz's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Mamado scoring with strikes to the body and head. Mamado trying to control from half guard but Ruiz is working away. Mamado throwing shots but Ruiz is blocking nicely. Well, if Mamado is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Mamado's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruiz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mamado pulls his head out easily. Ruiz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Mamado wants to take a breather but Ruiz is having none of it. Ruiz on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Mamado wants to free his trapped foot but Ruiz is holding on for dear life with his legs. Mamado is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Ruiz has managed to free his arm - good work. Mamado is keen to just control but Ruiz is a slippery customer. Ruiz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ruiz.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Ruiz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mamado is in close to Ruiz's body, working some short punches and elbows. Ruiz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mamado is working Ruiz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Ruiz being controlled here, momentarily. Ruiz keeping moving, preventing Mamado from controlling successfully. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mamado controlling from the top position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Wilson Mamado dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Ruiz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mamado to score an easy takedown into full guard. Ruiz pushes Mamado off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Ruiz avoids the body shot from Mamado.
Ruiz misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ruiz tries to keep at a distance but Mamado has taken the fight into the clinch. Mamado lands a nice shot to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. A nice right hand lands inside from Mamado. Ruiz just leaning against Mamado, taking a breather. Ruiz tries to pull guard but Mamado won't allow it.
Ruiz drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Ruiz is fighting off a takedown attempt but Mamado is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ruiz to the mat. Ruiz regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Ruiz pushes Mamado off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Mamado fails to land with a series of punches.
Mamado scores with a hook to the body. Ruiz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Renato Ruiz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mamado clinches up against the cage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A hook to the body from Mamado.
Ruiz drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renato Ruiz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ruiz is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mamado manages to break the clinch.
Mamado rushes Ruiz and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Ruiz is trying to stall.
Ruiz is looking to control Mamado's arms but Mamado gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ruiz has his back to the cage. Ruiz seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Mamado is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment. Ruiz holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Ruiz stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Renato Ruiz. Mamado lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ruiz at a distance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mamado closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Mamado lands a nice forearm strike.
Ruiz is rocked! Mamado is chipping away with strikes.
Oh Ruiz is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Mamado taking a breather here. Mamado works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. A big shot lands for Mamado! That's hurt Ruiz! Will he recover? Mamado fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
