Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Zsiga Venczel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Der Elk! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Venczel takes the fight into the clinch. Venczel turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Elk tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Elk trying to get back to his feet but Venczel is in full control for now. Venczel thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent. Venczel seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Venczel punishes Elk with strikes from the back mount. Venczel tightening his grip on Elk, looking for the choke. Venczel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Venczel punches Elk on the ear.
That's one minute gone in the round. Elk is trying to shake Venczel off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Venczel won't be happy about giving up the dominant position. Venczel with a lazy takedown attempt and Elk cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Venczel avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Venczel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Elk. Zsiga Venczel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Venczel tries to clinch and Elk counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Venczel tries to clinch there but Elk circles away.
Venczel misses with a takedown and Elk counters with a straight right hand. Elk jabs Venczel to the body, keeping him at a distance. Elk gets caught flat footed, as Venczel shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Elk being controlled here, momentarily. Venczel wants to control from the top but Elk keeps moving. Venczel is looking to work some ground and pound but Elk has wrist control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Venczel trying to control the position from guard on top but Elk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Venczel drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Elk dives on top into guard.
Venczel had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Elk defends it easily. Venczel has control of Elk's left arm, preventing Elk from doing any damage. Venczel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Elk defends well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Venczel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Elk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Venczel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Elk stands up from Venczel's guard - Elk perhaps looking for a knockout. Venczel moves out of range as Elk strikes. Elk jabs Venczel to the body, keeping him at a distance. Elk misses with a straight right. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Elk lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Venczel has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Venczel and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Venczel fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Elk sprawls well initially but Venczel persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Venczel in particular looking to stall. We've been informed that Elk has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Elk pushes Venczel off looking to stand but Venczel dives back in and keeps control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Elk wants to stand back up but Venczel manages to pass into side control.
Venczel advances to full mount. Venczel wants to control the pace but Elk is squirming around nicely. Venczel looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Elk is bucking up trying to escape but Venczel cracks him with another couple of good strikes. This has been an exciting period of action! A nice elbow there by Venczel. Venczel punishing his opponent with strikes.
Elk is rocked! Venczel lands a big shot to the head and Elk winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Zsiga Venczel! A relieved looking Zsiga Venczel thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
