PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ole Svensson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franco Colombo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Svensson comes to the cage accompanied by Fever Ray -If I had a heart. Franco Colombo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ole Svensson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 48 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franco Colombo!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Franklyn Lucas and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colombo works the jab nicely.


It looks like Ole Svensson has been cut.
Svensson clobbers Colombo with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Svensson takes a kick to the side of the head.
Svensson scores with a three punch combo!

Svensson tries to keep at a distance but Colombo has taken the fight into the clinch.

Colombo breaks from the clinch.

Svensson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Colombo to the ground. Svensson is now in Colombo's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Colombo can do anything to dispel that myth.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Svensson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Svensson won't allow Colombo to sweep him here.
Colombo wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Svensson shoots in for a takedown but Colombo shows good takedown defense.
Colombo misses with a head kick.
Svensson was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Svensson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Colombo to the ground. Svensson is now in Colombo's guard.

Svensson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Colombo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Svensson has Colombo in his guard.

Colombo wants to control from the top but Svensson keeps moving.
Svensson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Svensson continues to stall.
Svensson looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Colombo looking to pass the guard.
Colombo trying to control the position from guard on top but Svensson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Colombo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Svensson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Svensson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Svensson!

Colombo regains half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Svensson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Colombo's head.
Colombo is looking for a sweep. Svensson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Colombo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Colombo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Svensson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Colombo's head.
Colombo trying to hold on to Svensson's head to control him but Svensson postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Colombo shoots in looking for a takedown but Svensson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Colombo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
It looked like Svensson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Colombo lands with a hook. Svensson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Horrible takedown attempt by Svensson or perhaps it was just good defense by Colombo, which made it look bad.

and Colombo counters with a flying knee that sends his opponent to the canvas! Colombo looking to finish!


Svensson is rocked!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Svensson holds on and takes a little breather.
Colombo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Svensson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Svensson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Svensson pulls Colombo in to control the position.
Colombo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Svensson can't keep his opponent in guard - Colombo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Svensson desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Svensson tries to roll over but Colombo keeps him under control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Colombo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Svensson manages to get to full guard.

Colombo being controlled here momentarily.
Colombo trying to control the position from guard on top but Svensson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Svensson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Colombo's guard.

Ole Svensson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Svensson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Colombo wants to control the position but Svensson says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Colombo wants to get back to full guard.

Colombo keeps trying to improve his position.
Colombo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Svensson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Svensson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Colombo is pressing down on Svensson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Franco Colombo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Svensson drives through with a takedown into Colombo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Svensson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Colombo's head.

Svensson gets to his feet. Colombo looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Franco Colombo seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Colombo punishes Svensson's body with a nice straight punch.
Svensson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Colombo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Svensson scrambles back to his feet.
Svensson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Colombo.

Svensson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Colombo quickly recovers to half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Colombo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Colombo is controlling Svensson's posture.
Svensson chips away with some ground and pound.
Colombo keeping moving, preventing Svensson from controlling successfully.

Svensson distracts Colombo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Svensson is fighting to break Colombo's control of his arms but Colombo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Svensson is looking to work some ground and pound but Colombo has wrist control.
Svensson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Svensson shoots in looking for a takedown. Colombo tries to sprawl out of it but Svensson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Colombo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Svensson takes a kick to the side of the head.
Svensson darts in looking for a takedown but Colombo gets double underhooks and turns Svensson into the cage.
Colombo swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Svensson feints and as Colombo raises his hands in defense, Svensson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Colombo kicks Svensson off and gets to his feet.
Svensson blocks a head kick by Colombo.
Svensson fails with a takedown attempt.
Colombo is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ole Svensson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Colombo goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Franco Colombo.
I think Colombo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
